Department of History and Anthropology Senior Research Presentations

Graduating senior history majors, will present orally the results of their capstone research papers. These are independent projects, worked on in the context of a seminar led by a faculty member, conducted over the course of a semester, based on original research. This semester’s projects include:

  1. A study of the rise of the SS in Nazi Germany
  2. The Salem witch trials
  3. The origins of sign language in medieval monasteries
  4. The history of Mackinac Island as both a modern tourist destination and a site of Native American and colonial interaction
  5. The way New York public schools dealt with student trauma in the wake of the terror attacks of 9/11
  6. The implications of Brexit for the U.K.-Ireland boarder
  7. The impact of Europeans on Native American culture in 18th century New Jersey.

4th Annual Political Science/Sociology Conference

The department of Political Science/Sociology brings together majors from Monmouth and surrounding colleges/universities to present student work within the field. This event offers students the opportunity to gain valuable feedback on their papers and also get a feel for the atmosphere of an independent academic conference. The conference also emphasizes the importance of research and advancement of knowledge.

Service Learning Showcase

The Service Learning Showcase is an interdisciplinary event where students critically reflect upon their service learning course experiences. As a distinctive pedagogy at Monmouth University, service learning fosters an ethic of service and civic responsibility through mutually beneficial partnerships associated with a course that enable semester-long collaborations among students, faculty, and community partners. Refreshments will be served. Topics to be covered include:

School of Science 18th Annual Student Research Conference

The School of Science Student Research Conference highlights the results of applied research, independent study, and thesis projects conducted by students in the departments of biology; chemistry and physics; computer science and software engineering; and mathematics. The conference, now a part of the university-wide annual Scholarship Week, gives students the opportunity to present their work via poster presentations to peers, faculty, friends, and family.

The Honors School Research Conference

Students present their research to an audience which will include their peers, family members, faculty, and administrators. Student presenters come from disciplines across the university, with projects covering unique topics within their majors. Each student is guided by a chief advisor; some students select a second reader as well.

This spring, 35 students will present their research in three sessions: 8:30–10:30 a.m; 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m; and 1:30–3:30 p.m.
