  • Nurse Practitioner Skills Boot Camp

    Step up for the “Boot Camp” at Monmouth University – an immersion program for Nurse Practitioners providing specialized training in key areas. The hands-on experience will be facilitated by content experts who will share knowledge, tips and techniques for practice. The boot camp is suitable for individuals who would like to update their knowledge and/or who are new to the role.

    Participants will complete 2 modules daily of the total 4 listed below. Each day will include a 1.5 hour pharmacology update.

    • X-Ray Interpretation
    • Care of Common Orthopedic Injuries and Splinting Basics
    • Suturing and Wound Closure
    • Clinical Decision Making – Interpreting and Integrating Diagnostics

    Fee: $450/$400 for MU Students and Alumni (Instructional materials, a continental breakfast and a light lunch are included in the program fee)

  • Pediatric Emergency Care

    The instructor will present an overview of conditions that require pediatric emergency care. Focusing on body systems, a review clinical findings will be highlighted. Goals and strategies for treatment will be reviewed. An emphasis will be on cases that should not be missed and how to identify the sick child in all healthcare settings.

    Cost: $75/$60 for MU Students & Alumni (A light dinner is included in the program fee)

  • Sexual Assault Examination Across the Lifespan

    Dates and Times: Wednesdays, January 3, 10, 17 & 24, from 5 – 9 p.m. & Saturday, January 13, from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    *Participants are asked to reserve January 27 in case a make-up date is needed for inclement weather.

    Fee: $875

    Sixty-eight contact hours will be provided. (In addition to the classroom hours, approximately 44 hours including pre-course assignments, homework and post-course assignments will be required). Study materials will be provided for completion prior to the start of the course.

    This program is designed for the RN with at least 2 years recent clinical experience desiring to obtain the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to provide effective health care and services to victims of sexual assault. Content will include the biological, psychological, social and medico-legal dynamics of sexual assault including care of both male and female survivors across the lifespan.

  • A Closer Look at Skin Disorders: Dermatology for Advanced Practice Nurse

    This course is designed to provide an overview of skin disorders frequently observed in the primary care setting. The instructor will discuss the physical exam, laboratory findings, management of care and treatment options. An area of focus will be on screening, preventing and the management of skin cancer.

    This program will provide 3 contact hours for nurses.

    This course is one of the most popular continuing education programs offered by the School of Nursing. The instructor will focus on basic clinical evaluation of the school age child including both normal and abnormal findings. The material covered will primarily focus on disease and disorders frequently observed in the school age child.

  • Rings, Rashes, Lumps, and Bumps: Skin Disorders in the School Age Child

    Designed for the School Nurse or Pediatric Nurse, this workshop will cover assessment techniques, physical findings and treatment options for common skin disorders. The school health office is often the first place that a child will present with a wound, a lesion, rash, or an itch. The School Nurse’s assessment skills will determine whether the child returns to class or for further evaluation and treatment. Knowledge of skin disorders and diseases can help to ensure that a child receives appropriate care and can reduce the spread of diseases with the early implementation of infection control strategies.
