SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Tuesday Night Book Club: Colm Tóibín's Brooklyn
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Tuesday Night Book Club! Hosted by Monmouth University’s Ken Womack and Michael Thomas\, each month we’ll explore a different novel. All you have to do is Zoom in and join the discussion! \nOur first selection is Colm Toibin’s celebrated Brooklyn (2009). In the novel\, Eilis Lacey comes of age in small-town Ireland in the hard years following World War Two. When an Irish priest from Brooklyn offers to sponsor Eilis in America\, she decides she must go\, leaving her fragile mother and her charismatic sister behind. Eilis finds work in a department store on Fulton Street\, and when she least expects it\, finds love. Tony\, who loves the Dodgers and his big Italian family\, slowly wins her over with patient charm. But just as Eilis begins to fall in love\, devastating news from Ireland threatens the promise of her future. \nWhen you register you will be provided the meeting link to join the conversation. CLICK HERE for more information on how to use zoom

SUMMARY:Earth Day Webinar: Shifting Fish Species
DESCRIPTION:An Earth Day Webinar moderated by Karl Vilacoba\, Communications Director for the Urban Coast Institute. \nFor planning purposes\, please register to kvilacob@monmouth.edu \nWebinar link: https://monmouth.adobeconnect.com/earthday/ \nDetails: \nA series of maps recently published on the Mid-Atlantic Ocean Data Portal illustrates the shifts that have taken place over the last five decades by several commercially and recreationally important fish species living along the East Coast. Users can automatically animate or toggle through hundreds of maps representing fish distributions during the spring or fall seasons in the 1970s\, 1980s\, 1990s\, 2000s or 2010s. The Portal also added a collection of maps projecting future shifts through the year 2100\, based on data previously released by OceanAdapt. \nMembers of the public can learn more about the shifting species data and the Portal in a free webinar on Earth Day\, April 22\, from 11 a.m. to noon. Chris Bruce and Marta Ribera of The Nature Conservancy will discuss the analysis in further detail\, demonstrate the maps and participate in a Q&A session.
