SUMMARY:Puzzle Project
DESCRIPTION:Puzzle Project \nOctober 25 – November 23\, 2011\nPuzzle Pieces are $10 each \nPollak Gallery \nWe invite you to be part of the Monmouth University Puzzle Project\, a collaborative group art exhibition. Participants purchase a 24″ x 24″ universal puzzle piece and then turn it into a unique work of art. When the piece is complete it is inserted into the puzzle\, which will continue to grow over time on the walls of the Pollak Gallery. The University’s puzzle will eventually be added to over 5\,000 other pieces for an exhibition in New York City. This project is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Board and the Center for the Arts. \nThe Puzzle Installation & Collaborative Project is a growing & traveling\, group art exhibition. It was initially sponsored by the Monmouth County Arts Council and was created and developed by the artists Tim Kelly & Sandy Taylor (MCAC) and Marie Maber (Brookdale Community College) for the 2009 Teen Arts Festival at Brookdale. DESCRIPTION:Since their arrival on the music scene in 1993 in a legendary residency at Los Angeles’ Brown Derby nightclub\, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s irresistible live show and aggressive\, musically perceptive approach has proven them over time to be the singular standout among the numerous bands that launched the Nineties swing revival. The seven-man group forged a massively successful fusion of classic American sounds from jazz\, swing\, Dixieland\, and big-band music\, building their own songbook of original dance tunes\, and\, sixteen years later\, BBVD is a veteran force that to this day adds new fans by the roomful every time they play. \nCost: $42/32

DESCRIPTION:Artist Lecture & Dance/Video Demonstration \nBenton-C Bainbridge and Brooke Broussard \nDancer/choreographer Brooke Broussard and video artist\nBenton-C Bainbridge will present a lecture demonstration with a live\ndancing element. Brooke and Benton most recently collaborated on\n“Infinite Light\,” a multi-media event in China that combined modern\ndance performance with custom-designed media art. “Infinite Light”\nblends dance and video projections in visual manifestations of\nchoreographed “flowers\,” “trees” and even a “Big Bang.” \nArtist bios:\nBainbridge\, based in the Bronx and Nashville\, works with video as a\npainterly and performable medium. Bainbridge has presented video in\nimmersive environments\, screenings\, installations and live performances\nacross 5 continents\, collaborating with artists around the world\,\nincluding The Beastie Boys. \nBroussard is a native of Louisiana\, where she began to\ngrow into modern dance. She has toured and performed her own\nchoreography extensively within the US and internationally.  Her work\nincorporates neuroscience\, emotional states\, and inventive\,\nimprovisational movement\, culminating in groundbreaking multi-media\nperformance art. DESCRIPTION:Michael Waters’ ten books of poetry include Gospel Night (2011); Darling Vulgarity (2006—finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize); Parthenopi: New and Selected Poems (2001—finalist for the Paterson Poetry Prize)—these titles from BOA Editions—Bountiful(1992); The Burden Lifters (1989); and Anniversary of the Air(1985)—these titles from Carnegie Mellon UP. In 2011\, Shoestring Press (UK) published Selected Poems. His co-edited volumes include Contemporary American Poetry (Houghton Mifflin\, 2006) and Perfect in Their Art: Poems on Boxing from Homer to Ali (Southern Illinois UP\, 2003). The recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fulbright Foundation\, he has published poems in numerous journals and anthologies\, including Poetry\, The Paris Review\, The Yale Review\, The American Poetry Review\, The Kenyon Review\, The Southern Review\, The Gettysburg Review\, The Georgia Review\, Rolling Stone\, and The Pushcart Prize\,and has chaired the Poetry Panel for the National Book Award. Waters is Professor of English at Monmouth University.

DESCRIPTION:Paul Byrom \nThis Is The Moment Tour  \nCost: $30/25 \nPaul Byrom is often hailed as Ireland’s premier young tenor and with good reason. From an early age his special vocal talent brought him the attention of music coaches and talent spotters. His talent as a tenor has taken him far and wide\, and some of the many highlights of his career to date include performing for many dignitaries such as Irish President Mary McAleese\, Emperor Akihito of Japan\, Former Irish President and UN Commissioner for Human Rights\, Mary Robinson and most recently for United States President\, Barack Obama. In 2007 Paul was invited to join Celtic Thunder as one of the five soloists. Fans call Byrom “The Swanky Tenor” for his suave and romantic style in performing\, which is stamped on such numbers in Celtic Thunder as “Remember Me Recuerde Me” and “She”.
