DESCRIPTION:This semester\, Blue Hawk Records will be hosting their first ever virtual release show on the Blue Hawk Records Instagram page for their new album Sweet 16 on May 6 at 8pm.  \nOver the past few weeks\, student life at Monmouth University\, and everywhere\, has changed dramatically\, due to COVID – 19. Like all other schools and universities across the country\, Monmouth has moved to online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester. However\, despite the chaotic and tumultuous situation students found themselves\, Blue Hawk Records carried on with its plans to release its 16th studio album. They innovated and found a way to remotely produce\, promote and release the spring 2020 compilation EP\, “Sweet 16”. A first for the student-run record label\, as well as most major record labels. \nArtists on “Sweet 16” include Monmouth students\, Shadiyah\, featuring Gabriel Garza\, Nicole Totland\, Bruce Davis\, featuring Janae\, Mikey Sanchez\, Drew Fournier\, and Monmouth alumni\, Anya Schildge Angeloni ‘12M\, along with an ensemble of accompanying student musicians and producers. \nSweet 16 will be available for streaming on all digital platforms on May 8. \nYou can find and follow Blue Hawk Records at @bluehawkrecordsofficial

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Melissa Ziobro\, Specialist Professor of Public History in the Department of History and Anthropology \nThe topic of American women and royal marriage has been popularized since British Prince Harry wed American actress Meghan Markle in 2018- but did you know that marriages between American women and European nobles once happened by the hundreds? During the Gilded Age\, wealthy American heiresses married impoverished European nobles by the score. The marriages secured social status for “new money” American families often slighted by the established elites in their own country; while the infusion of American dollars allowed the impoverished nobility across the Atlantic to continue to maintain the lifestyles to which their families had been accustomed for generations. There were literally hundreds of these marriages\, some more famous than others- including several featuring brides with roots in NJ. SUMMARY:"A Monument to Fallen Royalty": Rediscovering Joseph Bonapartes Point Breeze Estate in Bordentown\, New Jersey
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Monmouth University Associate Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences\, Richard F. Veit\, Ph.D. \nRecent archaeological excavations in Bordentown\, New Jersey have unearthed the remains of Joseph Bonaparte’s palatial estate\, Point Breeze.   Joseph\, the elder brother of Napoleon Bonaparte and former King of Spain and Naples\, fled to the United States in 1815.  He lived in New Jersey from 1816 until 1839.  During this period he built two palatial homes\, laid out a 1900-acre picturesque landscape\, and acted as an unofficial cultural attaché.  His home was a center for French refugees in America.  His library and art collections were the largest in country. Using ancient wax techniques to explore present-day topics\, Dzikiewicz is unflinching. She strikes hot\, skewering the heart of the difficult issues she addresses\, including themes of violence\, racism\, and misogyny. As a resident of the Workhouse Arts Center\, the grief and triumph of the once imprisoned Suffragists serve as the inspiration for her contemporary tales of women who fight for change or the issues that inspire modern activists.

SUMMARY:Human-Animal Interactions and COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:What does quality animal care and treatment have to do with public health? Can my dog be at risk for contracting or spreading COVID-19?  What does my cat think of me being home all of the time? This Q&A will discuss the science behind how animals play a role in our physical and mental health and wellness\, and how this relationship is especially relevant to the current COVID-19 crisis. We will also discuss the impact of the current pandemic on animal trainers\, veterinarians\, animal shelters\, zoos\, and aquariums locally and around the country. Finally\, we will discuss how the human-animal bond— and how our new social distancing measures due to COVID-19 may affect those bonds with our own pets at home. Go Tell It On The Mountain\, first published in 1953\, is James Baldwin’s first major work\, a novel that has established itself as an American classic. With lyrical precision\, psychological directness\, resonating symbolic power\, and a rage that is at once unrelenting and compassionate\, Baldwin chronicles a fourteen-year-old boy’s discovery of the terms of his identity as the stepson of the minister of a storefront Pentecostal church in Harlem one Saturday in March of 1935. Baldwin’s rendering of his protagonist’s spiritual\, sexual\, and moral struggle of self-invention opened new possibilities in the American language and in the way Americans understand themselves. \nFree and open to the public\, but registration is required.
