DESCRIPTION:Born into the world of art and design\, Mike Quon learned the ropes early on from his father who was an art director and an animator and promotional artist at Disney working on classics like Dumbo and Fantasia. After graduating from UCLA School of the Arts\, Mike launched his own career as an art director at J. Walter Thompson and Young and Rubicam before establishing his award-winning design office in New York City 30 years ago. Since then\, Mike’s bold and bright promotional illustrations for advertising and editorial campaigns\, his graphic design collateral and packaging\, and his hand-crafted logos have been seen around the world\, helping to promote events like the Summer Olympics and build lasting brand identities for consumer products\, businesses and nonprofits.

DESCRIPTION:As a universal language the arts are a very effective tool for addressing social issues. The #metoo movement has brought to the surface long ignored injustices perpetrated mostly against women for generations that are finally screaming to be remedied. SUMMARY:The Jumpsuit Project: Artist Talk with Sherrill Roland
DESCRIPTION:Sherrill Roland began his socially engaged artwork The Jumpsuit Project in 2016 and continues to use his project to ignite conversations around issues related to mass incarceration. While a graduate student\, Roland was wrongfully convicted and spent over ten months in prison. Although eventually exonerated of all charges and granted a bill of innocence\, his experiences with the justice system had a lasting effect on both his life and his artistic practice. When he returned to campus\, he wore an orange jumpsuit everyday up to and during his graduation ceremony\, encouraging all who encountered him and his jumpsuit to address their own prejudices toward those incarcerated. Through sharing his own story\, and creating a space for others to process\, question\, and share\, he sheds light on the enormous darkness incarceration brings. \nSince graduating with his MFA from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro in May of 2017\, Roland has been traveling widely to exhibit\, perform\, and discuss his experience and art. In 2017 the New York Times included Roland in their list “From the Personal to the Political\, 19 Artists to Watch Next Year\,” and in 2018 The Studio Museum in Harlem exhibited his The Jumpsuit Project\, which they acquired for their permanent collection. \nFor more information\, see: https://www.jumpsuitproject.com/

DESCRIPTION:Over the past few years\, The Matt O’Ree Band has done what most area bands do. They’ve played their shows\, developed their sound\, released their records and very quietly built a massive fan base in the process. \nWhat makes this band different from all the others is that their local fan base includes Bruce Springsteen\, David Bryan and Steve Cropper\, all of whom have volunteered to perform on the band’s latest album\, “Brotherhood”. \nPrior to Brotherhood’s release\, Matt’s talent was recognized globally when he got the nod to join rock legends Bon Jovi as their guitarist/backing vocalist on their 2015 stadium tour of the Far East. \nIn addition to being a creative songwriter\, Matt was recognized by the industry as a guitar great after winning a national guitar contest hosted by BB King and John Mayer through Guitar Center and Guitar World Magazine. Matt beat out over 4\,000 competitors to win the grand prize which consisted of multiple guitars\, an endorsement from Gibson\, a shopping spree at Guitar Center and a new car from Scion. SUMMARY:From Rock and Roll to Recovery and Everything In Between with Ricky Byrd
DESCRIPTION:Ricky Byrd is first and foremost – a man living in long term recovery. He also happens to be part of rock ‘n roll royalty. He is a well-recognized musician who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the lead guitarist and former original member of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Ricky played with Joan from 1981-1992\, and has also recorded or toured with Roger Daltrey\, Ian Hunter\, Southside Johnny and many other talented musicians since that time. \nRicky most recently has been combining his love for music with his passion and mission to help carry the torch of change surrounding the stigma of drug and alcohol use. He hopes to break down the barriers and spread the message of hope\, education\, awareness and addiction resources to his audiences. Using the healing powers of music as a touchstone\, Ricky likes to motivate those early in recovery or still struggling\, along with their family members. Whether it’s through his various speaking appearances\, concert events\, music outreach sessions\, small recovery music groups\, or prevention programs\, Ricky is dedicated to inspiring change. \nAs a songwriter\, who now often focuses on recovery lyrics\, Ricky moves people to laugh\, cry and think. He’s played his songs in the most intimate of rooms as well as to hundreds of thousands all over the world. He recognizes the power of the word and the music and often combines both into a message of hope and encouragement for sobriety. \nRicky can contribute to an event by sharing famous rock ‘n roll stories in a keynote address or by performing recovery music from his latest CD\, Clean Getaway. There is also a special place in his heart for smaller group settings where he can play acoustic guitar and clearly see the faces\, tears\, smiles and struggles up close. Ricky feels that music therapy and the open discussion that follows can lead broken souls to find that little bit of happiness – and encouragement they need to move forward. \nHe presents on the benefits of a sober lifestyle and likes talking to youth\, who are at that age\, where pressures and experimenting can often lead them down a crooked and deadly path. Ricky takes pride in also educating those individuals  in our communities that are somehow unaware and uninformed of the deadly drug and alcohol pandemic we are facing in this country. \nIn 2017\, Ricky received the Drug Free Heroes Award\, presented by Foundation For a Drug free World. SUMMARY:Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies
DESCRIPTION:Take a fresh look at Van Gogh through the legacy of the greatest private collector of the Dutch artist’s work: Helene Kröller-Müller (1869-1939)\, one of the first to recognize the genius of Van Gogh. In the early 20th century\, Kröller-Müller amassed nearly 300 of Van Gogh’s paintings and drawings now housed at her namesake museum in Holland. \nThe Basilica Palladina exhibition in Vicenza\, “Amid Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies\,” with 40 paintings and 85 drawings on loan from the Kröller-Müller Museum\, lends the basis of this program\, revealing Van Gogh’s art and his genius\, while allowing audiences to understand the importance of drawing as part of his craft. \nVan Gogh’s seemingly instinctive canvases were the result of long\, preparatory studies very rarely exhibited – not just sketches but stunning works of art in and of themselves\, where the broken flow of lines that characterize the style and strokes in Van Gogh’s paintings can already be seen. \nProduced by 3D Productions and Nexo Digital

They were featured in the Duplass Brothers Productions documentary “Asperger’s Are Us” now on Netflix. They have performed over 100 original absurdist sketch shows in nine countries since 2010. \n“Audiences don’t usually know what to expect from Asperger’s Are Us\, a Boston sketch comedy troupe made up solely of artists on the autism spectrum. Will they use self-deprecating humor about life with Asperger’s syndrome? Are they hoping to shed light on a serious condition? Will they be something like Sheldon\, the socially inept character on CBS’s ‘The Big Bang Theory’? \nThe answer\, it turns out\, is none of the above. \nInstead of focusing on the condition\, the four men who make up the troupe perform skits and monologues that reflect their thoughts\, perspectives and offbeat sensibilities\, often characterized by deadpan and absurd humor… the guys are not looking for sympathy laughs or polite applause.
