Gochman’s memoir\, “At the Altar of the Appellate Gods: Arguing before the Supreme Court”\, details her experience arguing the landmark criminal sentencing case\, Apprendi v. SUMMARY:Climate Change and Mental Health: Fostering Hope and Connection
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Climate Crisis Teach-In 2025\nThis presentation explores the growing mental health impacts of climate change\, with a focus on community-level strategies that promote resilience\, hope\, and collective agency. Drawing on emerging research and best practices\, it highlights how climate anxiety and ecological grief—particularly among Gen Z—are shaped by systemic inequities\, uncertainty\, and disruption. The session emphasizes the importance of intergenerational dialogue\, mutual aid\, and relational care in fostering emotional support and wellbeing. Participants will be introduced to tools\, resources\, and evidence-informed approaches for creating communities of care where climate-related emotions are validated and shared. Together\, we will envision how interdisciplinary groups and diverse professionals can build climate-responsive mental health systems grounded in justice\, connection\, and collective action. \nRachel Forbes\, MSW (’11M)\, is the community outreach and engagement specialist at the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University. Forbes’s current research and teaching examines the impacts of climate change on mental health and protective factors at the community level. Her work has been published in environmental justice and human rights journals\, and has been funded by the CSWE Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work and the Hispanic Access Foundation. She is editor of the award winning book “Ecosocial Work: Environmental Practice and Advocacy” (NASW Press 2023).

DESCRIPTION:Due to the New Jersey State of Emergency for this Sunday\, Oct. 12\, 2025\, the Monmouth County College Fair has been rescheduled to Monday\, Oct. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m.\nDear Parents\, Guardians\, and Students\, \nWelcome to the Monmouth County Guidance Directors Association’s annual Fall College Fair! We are excited to announce that you will be joining us on October 13th\, 2025\, at 5:00 PM. \nThe college search and selection process is an exciting journey for families\, and college fairs often serve as a significant first step. This event provides excellent opportunities to meet with representatives from various schools\, allowing you to identify programs\, gather information regarding financial aid offerings\, and assess your level of interest. Whether you are a junior narrowing down your options or an underclassman just starting to explore\, take this time to discover schools you may wish to visit in person. \nAs you walk through the OceanFirst Bank Center and review the many available options\, consider the following questions: What majors am I most interested in? Is there a specific geographical area where I would like to remain? Would I thrive at a large school\, a small school\, or somewhere in between? What activities and programs are most important to me? While school websites can provide valuable information about size\, programs\, and activities\, face-to-face meetings with admissions representatives offer a more personalized and authentic view of the school experience. These representatives are highly knowledgeable\, so don’t hesitate to ask them plenty of questions. \nBe sure to keep track of the answers you receive—take notes\, maintain a journal\, or create a chart—and share this information with your school counselor\, who is a valuable resource in guiding you through your final college decisions. \nOnce you have narrowed your list using online programs\, college “best of” books\, the college fair\, and\, most importantly\, your school counselor\, you will be prepared to explore colleges firsthand—visiting campuses and perhaps even sitting in on classes!
