SUMMARY:Art for the Non-Artist (Drawing)
DESCRIPTION:This isn’t your average art class—it’s a creative empowerment workshop created especially for those who think they can’t draw. You’ll learn to draw with both technical skill and confidence—in just one session. With a single feather as your subject\, you’ll learn to slow down and really see—translating its shape and texture into a drawing through focused observation. Each drawing will reflect the individual behind it—created entirely by your own hand\, and completed with real technical skill\, even if it’s your very first time. \nLed by Art Coach and Teaching Artist Jenny Santa Maria\, this workshop helps you unlearn the myth of “natural talent” and discover the joy of drawing as a skill that can be taught\, learned\, and enjoyed. Jenny has guided countless anxious\, curious\, and discouraged individuals to find joy and confidence through creative expression\, bringing her workshops to libraries\, art centers\, and community spaces across New England. \nWhether you’re working through limiting beliefs or simply curious about reconnecting with your creativity\, this workshop offers a safe\, encouraging space to explore art making as a new language—one that can enrich every part of your life.

SUMMARY:I Want My MTV!\, Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: February 11\, 18\, 25\, 2027 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nOn August 1\, 1981\, six words began a revolution: “Ladies and gentlemen\, rock and roll.”  That announcement kicked off not only the music video age but also a change in popular music.  The second British invasion\, hair metal\, and Michael Jackson: MTV ushered in a new crop of artists and genres whose music still resounds today. \n\n\nPart one explores the beginnings of music videos\, from Fats Waller’s 1940s “soundies” to the Beatles’ promotional films to the Monkees TV series.  By the 1970s\, countries such as Australia and England aired TV shows featuring promotional film clips\, with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” illustrating the genre’s early creativity. Michael Nesmith saw the potential of these programs in the US\, helping to create what became MTV. \n\n\nMultimedia presentations and discussions will trace the journey from the earliest soundies to August 1\, 1981: the beginning of a new musical revolution.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen – Easter in Art
DESCRIPTION:The story of Christ’s death and resurrection has dominated western culture for the past 2000 years. It is perhaps the most significant historical event of all time\, as recounted by the gospels but\, equally\, as depicted by the greatest artists in history. From the triumphant to the savage\, the ethereal to the tactile\, some of western civilization’s greatest artworks focus on this pivotal moment. \n\n\nThis beautifully crafted film explores the Easter story as depicted in art\, from the time of the early Christians to the present day. Shot on location in Jerusalem\, United States and throughout Europe\, the film explores the different ways artists have depicted the Easter story through the ages and thus depicts the history of us all. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Adult Education Series: Pysanky\, The Art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the spring at Monmouth University with this unique opportunity to learn the seasonal ancient art known as Pysanky. Pysanky\, also known as Ukrainian eggs\, is an ancient folk tradition that has been passed down for thousands of years. This meditative and communal experience is unlike any other art process and for many this workshop marks the beginning of a spring time family tradition that can be passed on and enjoyed for years to come. This tutorial will cover the history and traditions surrounding Pysanky\, a demonstration\, and independent practice session. The instructor will provide a variety of eggs\, dyes\, and tools. Participants will turn real eggs into works of art using a wax resist method similar to batik. A great deal of patience and concentration is required to complete a single egg\, but it is very rewarding to reveal your hard work when the wax layers are taken off. In-person attendance will be extremely limited. No prerequisite skills are required. Please bring a container or old egg carton to take home your creation. ages 18+

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen – Canaletto and the Art of Venice
DESCRIPTION:Canaletto & the Art of Venice is an immersive journey into the life and art of Venice’s famous view-painter. No artist better captures the essence and allure of the city than Giovanni Antonio Canal\, better known as Canaletto. Canaletto & the Art of Venice is an immersive journey into the life and art of Venice’s famous view-painter. No artist better captures the essence and allure of the city than Giovanni Antonio Canal\, better known as Canaletto. \nThe film offers the chance to step inside two official royal residences – Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle – to learn more about the artist\, and Joseph Smith\, the man who introduced Canaletto to Britain. \nViewers will embark on their very own 21st century Grand Tour\, visiting the sites enjoyed by their 18th century counterparts and immortalised in Canaletto’s views – from the Rialto Bridge to the Piazza San Marco\, and the Palazzo Ducale to the Church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. The film is an opportunity to get closer to Canaletto and the city that inspired him. \n
