She graduated from NYU with an MA in Fine Arts (1995) and received her BFA from Moore College of Art\, Phila\, PA. (1978)\n \n“I use memory and drawing as a starting point. There is some fleeting moment or feeling that I want to explore. An open ended moment of wonder. After a pencil sketch\, I do some research for color and reference. I am not interested in a factual reality\, more like a feeling of that moment. Sometimes I use figures or colors from art history. I want to hold on to a playful innocence\, so I don’t censor myself. It can also be about what I “want” to happen. I like painting that has an observational component\, but has its own life as a painting.”\n\nJill works in oils on linen\, acryla gouache on paper or linen and photography. “Whatever medium likes me at the moment.” Her favored subjects include journeys and humorous human and animal situations. She has attended the Vermont Studio Center and Anderson Ranch\, CO. SUMMARY:Singer/Songwriters in the '70s
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: September 3\, 10\, 17\, 2026 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nEmerging in the late 1960s\, the singer/songwriter movement changed popular music in that it introduced deeply personal topics set in sparse arrangements.  The singer merged with the composer\, transforming into a storyteller who revealed emotions concerning love\, loss\, confusion\, and sensitivity.  Joni Mitchell\, James Taylor\, and Cat Stevens represent just a few examples in the genre.  However\, its origins date back to the early 1950s and derive from genres such as folk and country. \n\n\nPart one of this two-part course will closely examine the beginnings of the singer/songwriter movement\, demonstrating how country artists such as Hank Williams\, Sr. set the template for confessional lyric writing.  Bob Dylan transformed folk music by shifting from protest to the personal\, with albums such as Bringing It All Back Home (1965) exploring themes concerning heartbreak and turmoil.  Early artists such as Taylor\, Laura Nyro\, and Leonard Cohen forged the sound\, which would become a dominant force in the 1970s. \n\n\nMultimedia presentations and discussions will study the origins of the genre\, previewing the height of the movement.

DESCRIPTION:EXHIBITION ON SCREEN journeys from the streets of Paris to the heart of the superb Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge\, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain. \nWith exclusive access to view rare and diverse works\, Degas: Passion for Perfection offers a unique insight into Degas’ personal and creative life. The film uncovers the fascinating story of Degas’ obsessive pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learnt from studying the past masters. \nNever fully satisfied\, many of Degas’ drawings and sculptures were kept in private during his lifetime but now\, through close examination\, they can be seen as some of the most beautifully detailed and expressive works in the modern era. Using written accounts by friends and commentators\, and the narration of letters written by Degas himself\, this film reveals a more complex truth behind one of the most influential French artists of the late 19th-century and serves as an exploration of the complex workings of Degas’ artistic mind.
