SUMMARY:I Puritani
DESCRIPTION:For gorgeous melody\, spellbinding coloratura\, and virtuoso vocal fireworks\, I Puritani has few equals. On January 10\, the first new Met production of Bellini’s final masterpiece in nearly 50 years—a striking staging by Charles Edwards\, who makes his company directorial debut after many successes as a set designer—arrives in cinemas worldwide. The Met has assembled a  world-beating quartet of stars\, conducted by Marco Armiliato\, for the demanding principal roles. Soprano Lisette Oropesa and tenor Lawrence Brownlee are Elvira and Arturo\, brought together by love and torn apart by the political rifts of the English Civil War\, with baritone Artur Ruciński as Riccardo\, betrothed to Elvira against her will\, and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Elvira’s sympathetic uncle\, Giorgio.

SUMMARY:Andrea Chénier
DESCRIPTION:Giordano’s passionate tragedy stars tenor Piotr Beczała as the virtuous poet who falls victim to the intrigue and violence of the French Revolution. Following their celebrated recent partnership in Giordano’s Fedora in the 2022–23 Live in HD season\, Beczała reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Chénier’s aristocratic lover\, Maddalena di Coigny\, with baritone Igor Golovatenko as Carlo Gérard\, the agent of the Reign of Terror who seals their fates. Met Principal Guest Conductor Daniele Rustioni takes the podium to lead Nicolas Joël’s gripping staging\, which will be transmitted live from the Met stage to Pollak Theatre on December 13.

SUMMARY:Disco Inferno!\, Part II
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: December 11\, 16\, & 18\, 2025 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nBy the late 1970s\, disco dominated the airwaves and conquered film\, television\, advertising\, and fashion. Its ubiquity\, however\, led to an inevitable backlash in the form of Chicago’s infamous “Disco Demolition Night” event at Comiskey Park.  Did that signal the end of the genre?  Hardly—it merely changed labels\, transforming its sound and becoming “House” or “Electronic Dance Music (EDM).”  In the present day\, artists such as Dua Lipa\, Beyoncé\, and Sabrina Carpenter have incorporated the sound into their own music. \n\n\nPart two of Disco Inferno continues the journey through the history of disco\, moving from the late 1970s peak into House music and through the present day.  How did disco evolve through the 1970s?  How did the genre alter music and popular culture?  Why has the music endured?  All of these questions will be explored through multimedia presentations and class discussions.  Students will learn about the peak of disco and its longevity\, key artists\, and how the genre evolved into House and EDM.

SUMMARY:La Bohème
DESCRIPTION:With its enchanting setting and spellbinding score\, the world’s most popular opera is as timeless as it is heartbreaking. Franco Zeffirelli’s picture-perfect production brings 19th century Paris to the Met stage as Puccini’s young friends and lovers navigate the joy and struggle of bohemian life. Soprano Juliana Grigoryan is the feeble seamstress Mimì\, opposite tenor Freddie De Tommaso as the ardent poet Rodolfo. Keri-Lynn Wilson conducts the November 8 performance\, which will be transmitted live from the Met stage to the Pollak Theatre.

SUMMARY:History of Motown Records
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: November 6\, 13\, & 20\, 2025 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nIn Detroit in the 1960’s Motown Records produced hits as efficiently as the Ford Motor Company produced automobiles. It was the “Sound of Young America” conceived by Berry Gordy J and sung by performers like The Supremes\, The Temptations\, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Using audio and visual content\, we’ll trace the amazing musical journey from the power soul of “Dancing in The Streets” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” to the psychedelic soul of “What’s Going On” and “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone” to the pop soul of The Jackson 5. Timeless music that moved us then and moves us now. \nZoom Link will be provided upon registration.

SUMMARY:La Sonnambula
DESCRIPTION:Following triumphant Live in HD performances in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette\, Verdi’s La Traviata\, and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor\, Nadine Sierra summits another peak of the soprano repertoire as Amina\, who sleepwalks her way into audiences’ hearts in Bellini’s poignant tale of love lost and found. In his new production\, Rolando Villazón—the tenor who has embarked on a brilliant second career as a director—retains the opera’s original setting in the Swiss Alps but uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind. Tenor Xabier Anduaga co-stars as Amina’s fiancé\, Elvino\, alongside soprano Sydney Mancasola as her rival\, Lisa\, and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Count Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza takes the podium for one of opera’s most ravishing works\, which will be transmitted live from the Met stage to Pollak Theatre on October 18. \n\nDue to wet ground conditions\, there will be no parking on the Pollack/Great Lawnfield tomorrow. Please park in the soccer fields or identify yourself to the football parking assistants as performing art patrons\, and the fee will be waived. \nThank you\, and enjoy the show!

SUMMARY:Disco Inferno!\, Part I
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: September 11\, 16\, & 18\, 2025 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nDance music had existed since at least the 1930s\, but the beat took on a new meaning in the 1970s. The four-on-the-floor beat\, wah-wah guitar\, horns\, funky bass\, and soulful vocals invited people from various backgrounds onto the floor.  The craze may have ended by 1980\, but the music never died; instead\, the genre transformed into other genres such as House and Electronic Dance Music (EDM).  Disco Inferno\, a two-part course\, will explore the history of disco\, from its origins through its heyday and beyond. \n\n\nPart one looks at the roots of disco\, from James Brown’s extended breaks to Philadelphia International’s groundbreaking\, lush productions.  New York and Africa played key roles in the development of disco\, as did a perfect storm of social and political issues: women’s rights\, gay rights\, civil rights\, the aftermath of Vietnam and Watergate\, and much more.  Students will learn about the rise of disco\, its characteristics\, and the key artists of its early years.  No prior knowledge of the Hustle is required! \n\nZoom Link will be provided upon registration.
