Lennon’s final pivotal year would climax in several moments of creative triumph as he rediscovered his artistic self in dramatic fashion. Womack’s presentation is drawn from his forthcoming book John Lennon 1980: The Last Days in the Life.  \nKenneth Womack is one of the world’s foremost writers and thinkers about the Beatles. In addition to such titles as Long and Winding Roads: The Evolving Artistry of the Beatles (2007) and The Beatles Encyclopedia: Everything Fab Four (2014)\, he is the author of a two-volume biography of the life and work of Beatles producer George Martin\, including Maximum Volume (2017) and Sound Pictures (2018). SUMMARY:ArtNOW Art+Feminism Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon
DESCRIPTION:Wikipedia is a worldwide collaborative encyclopedia project made up of a globalized network of volunteers who give their time to edit the site. Within this globalized network\, there still lacks a diversity of voices. “In a 2011 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female; more recent research puts that number at 16% globally and 23% in the United States.”  (Mandiberg\, M.\, Prajapati\, S.\, & Schrock\, R.\, 2020). Who contributes to a database matters. Especially when in 2015\, that database was “the 7th most visited website in the world” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). A 2011 study from the Pew Research Center\, shows that “the more educated someone is\, the more likely he or she is to consult Wikipedia. Almost 70 percent of Americans with college degrees read Wikipedia” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). If college-educated people and students are using Wikipedia as a main source of information\, there is an argument for students learning how to edit and contribute to the online encyclopedia that they use. \nIt is increasingly important for cis and trans women\, gender-non-conforming people\, people of color\, and Indigenous communities to be written back into history. When information systems like Wikipedia systematically exclude aspects of the human experience\, our understanding of the world is incomplete. Told through photographs and guitar technique demonstrations Jimy Bleu focuses on Hendrix’ rise to super-stardom\, his tremendous impact on Popular and ‘serious music’\, his indefinable musical style\, his virtually unknown potential as a spiritual leader and his political awakening which coincided with the turbulent times of that era in the United States. Bleu’s research\, documentation and musical illustrations stand alone in presenting the most comprehensive and at times unheard viewpoints and topics about this remarkable musician. Learn why almost 50 years after his death the iconic Jimi Hendrix is still incredibly relevant and named “The Greatest Guitarist of All Time”! \nLeonard J. Eisenberg tells the story of Jimi Hendrix through photos taken by him at three concerts in the 1960’s and recently published in his book “Photographing Jimi Hendrix.” In 1968 Leonard was three feet away from the guitar god at The Boston Garden allowing him an unprecedented point of view. SUMMARY:From Rock and Roll to Recovery and Everything In Between with Ricky Byrd
DESCRIPTION:Ricky Byrd is first and foremost – a man living in long term recovery. He also happens to be part of rock ‘n roll royalty. He is a well-recognized musician who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the lead guitarist and former original member of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Ricky played with Joan from 1981-1992\, and has also recorded or toured with Roger Daltrey\, Ian Hunter\, Southside Johnny and many other talented musicians since that time. \nRicky most recently has been combining his love for music with his passion and mission to help carry the torch of change surrounding the stigma of drug and alcohol use. He hopes to break down the barriers and spread the message of hope\, education\, awareness and addiction resources to his audiences. Using the healing powers of music as a touchstone\, Ricky likes to motivate those early in recovery or still struggling\, along with their family members. Whether it’s through his various speaking appearances\, concert events\, music outreach sessions\, small recovery music groups\, or prevention programs\, Ricky is dedicated to inspiring change. \nAs a songwriter\, who now often focuses on recovery lyrics\, Ricky moves people to laugh\, cry and think. He’s played his songs in the most intimate of rooms as well as to hundreds of thousands all over the world. He recognizes the power of the word and the music and often combines both into a message of hope and encouragement for sobriety. \nRicky can contribute to an event by sharing famous rock ‘n roll stories in a keynote address or by performing recovery music from his latest CD\, Clean Getaway. There is also a special place in his heart for smaller group settings where he can play acoustic guitar and clearly see the faces\, tears\, smiles and struggles up close. Ricky feels that music therapy and the open discussion that follows can lead broken souls to find that little bit of happiness – and encouragement they need to move forward. \nHe presents on the benefits of a sober lifestyle and likes talking to youth\, who are at that age\, where pressures and experimenting can often lead them down a crooked and deadly path. Ricky takes pride in also educating those individuals  in our communities that are somehow unaware and uninformed of the deadly drug and alcohol pandemic we are facing in this country. \nIn 2017\, Ricky received the Drug Free Heroes Award\, presented by Foundation For a Drug free World. As a result\, both Congress and the Supreme Court have attempted to place limits on the influence of the White House. Over 40 years later\, President Donald Trump is testing the limits of presidential power more than any president since Nixon. \nJohn W. Dean\, Nixon’s White House lawyer whose actions ultimately led to the former president’s impeachment and resignation\, and now a noted author and CNN contributor\, along with renowned presidential historian\, attorney\, and author\, James D.
