SUMMARY:Seasons in the Soil (Lecture In The Garden Series)
DESCRIPTION:Rich Mohr is a graduate of FIT (Florida Institute of Technology) where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and a Master of Science in Secondary Science Education. He currently works at Sickle’s Market in Little Silver within the agricultural department. Rich has taught courses at Georgian Court University that were focused on environmental sustainability\, creating an understanding of the roles people and societies play in sustaining the earth’s resources for future generations. He put stewardship theories into practice by creating\, promoting and managing the university’s first community vegetable garden\, the Mercy Garden. Rich was instrumental in establishing an experimental improved rain garden design on campus\, specifically targeting nitrogen removal from storm water runoff. In the past he’s developed and conducted extension programs with Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Ocean County and developed community garden workshops at Long Branch Covenant Church.

DESCRIPTION:Entering its 2nd year on the virtual stage\, this year’s Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival will feature members of the Garden State Philharmonic performing music from Civil War era Marches through Ragtime\, Dixieland\, and Jazz featuring music by composers George Gershwin\, Scott Joplin\, C.W. Handy\, Duke Ellington\, and Louis Armstrong. The festival will also highlight selections and solos from The Monmouth University Chamber Choir\, a performance by the Blue Hawk House Band and a special reading by former United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Natasha Tretheway. The festival will premiere at 7:00 PM on July 1st and be available to view through July 31st. DESCRIPTION:Monmouth University’s 6th annual Student Scholarship Week: Celebrating the Research\, Creative\, and Service Accomplishments of MU Students will take place virtually April 19-23\, 2021. Student Scholarship Week is a weeklong conference that showcases and celebrates students’ academic work inside and outside of the classroom\, as well as highlights faculty-student collaboration\, across the University. This includes highlighting students’ scholarly contributions in research\, writing\, service learning\, clinical experiences (i.e. study abroad\, internships)\, musical and theater productions\, art exhibits\, student development and leadership\, student clubs\, etc. \nThis year\, Student Scholarship Week will be held virtually for the safety of our students and staff. SUMMARY:Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain - VIRTUAL PANEL DISCUSSION
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a World Cinema Series zoom discussion illuminating the theme “A Delicate Balance: Global Communities and the Natural World” by analyzing the message and impact of Ravi Kumar’s 2014 docudrama\, Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain. Released on the 30th anniversary of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal\, India on December 2-3\, 1984\, the film analyses the causes of the chemical leak and vapor spread that killed as many as 10\,000 people in Bhopal and the responsibility of the Union Carbide corporate leadership\, its local operatives in Bhopal\, and the complicity of local officials in creating the conditions that led to the environmental catastrophe\, their efforts to avoid accountability\, and the legacy of the disaster. Combining suspense and a charismatic cast the film\, in the words of one critic (Martin Tsai of ‘The Los Angeles Times’) is “a cautionary tale that could not be more relevant.” (13 November 2014). The discussion of the film will be led by Dr. Datta Naik\, Professor of Chemistry\, and Dr. Marina Vujnovic\, Associate Professor of Communication\, and a specialist on global communications. \nThe film is available for streaming on a number of platforms including Vudu\, Amazon Prime Video\, YouTube\, Google Play Movies and TV\, or iTunes (for rent or purchase). \nWhen you register you will be provided the meeting link to join the conversation.

From your living room! \nFeaturing Tony-nominated members of Broadway’s smash hits Jersey Boys\, Motown: The Musical\, A Bronx Tale\, and more\, the Doo Wop Project’s dynamic live show takes audiences on a journey from early doo wop groups The Flamingos and The Belmonts through their influence on R&B like Smokey Robinson and The Four Seasons\, all the way to DooWopified versions of modern hits by Michael Jackson\, Amy Winehouse\, and Maroon 5. The last five years have seen sold-out shows across the country and performances with everyone from Katy Perry to Jon Bon Jovi to Jay Leno.

Adelphi has partnered with venues across the country to help promote the series and the artists. \nJarrod Spector is best known for his Tony Nominated performance in Beautiful: the Carole King Musical in the role of ‘Barry Mann’. He played ‘Frankie Valli’ for a record 1500 performances in Broadway’s Jersey Boys and was last seen as the iconic ‘Sonny Bono’ in Broadway’s The Cher Show. Kelli Barrett originated the role of ‘Lara Guishar’ in Broadway’s Doctor Zhivago and has also played leading roles in Broadway’s Wicked\, Baby It’s You! and The Royal Family. She was recently lauded for her portrayal as ‘Liza Minnelli’ in the award-winning FX show Fosse/Verdon. \nHitched in 2014\, Barrett & Spector present Funny How It Happens\, an intimate look at the uncanny parallels and fortuitous make-it-or-break-it moments throughout their careers and friendship that eventually brought them together.
