DESCRIPTION:Documentary’s subject\, directors will be on hand for live\, post-screening discussion\n\n\n\nThe Count Basie Center for the Arts Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion Task Force\, in conjunction with Monmouth University’s Social Justice Academy and Intercultural Center\, will host a special screening of the new Sony Pictures Classic documentary Who We Are: A Chronicle Of Racism In America at 7 p.m. on Tuesday\, February 15 at the Count Basie Center’s Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre\, 99 Monmouth Street\, Red Bank. \nThe screening\, which is free and open to the public\, will be followed by a live discussion with directors Emily Kunstler and Sarah Kunstler\, along with former American Civil Liberties Union Deputy Legal Director Jeffery Robinson\, whose presentation and research on anti-Black racism and white supremacy in America provides the focus of and narrative the documentary. \nIn Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America\, Robinson faces his largest audience\, asking all of us to examine who we are\, where we come from\, and who we want to be. Anchored by a 2018 performance by Robinson at New York City’s Town Hall theater\, the film interweaves historical and present-day archival footage\, Robinson’s personal story\, and vérité and interview footage capturing Robinson’s meetings with Black change-makers and eyewitnesses to history. From a hanging tree in Charleston\, South Carolina\, to a walking tour of the origins of slavery in colonial New York\, to the site of a 1947 lynching in rural Alabama\, the film brings history to life\, exploring the enduring legacy of white supremacy and our collective responsibility to overcome it. \n“Knowledge is power\,” Robinson says in a statement accompanying the film. “A false narrative about the role of white supremacy and anti-Black racism in America has led to our failure to make significant\, lasting progress on the issue of racial justice. Knowledge can change people’s views\, people’s opinions\, and their behavior. SUMMARY:Seasons in the Soil (Lecture In The Garden Series)
DESCRIPTION:Rich Mohr is a graduate of FIT (Florida Institute of Technology) where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and a Master of Science in Secondary Science Education. He currently works at Sickle’s Market in Little Silver within the agricultural department. Rich has taught courses at Georgian Court University that were focused on environmental sustainability\, creating an understanding of the roles people and societies play in sustaining the earth’s resources for future generations. He put stewardship theories into practice by creating\, promoting and managing the university’s first community vegetable garden\, the Mercy Garden. Rich was instrumental in establishing an experimental improved rain garden design on campus\, specifically targeting nitrogen removal from storm water runoff. In the past he’s developed and conducted extension programs with Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Ocean County and developed community garden workshops at Long Branch Covenant Church.

DESCRIPTION:Entering its 2nd year on the virtual stage\, this year’s Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival will feature members of the Garden State Philharmonic performing music from Civil War era Marches through Ragtime\, Dixieland\, and Jazz featuring music by composers George Gershwin\, Scott Joplin\, C.W. Handy\, Duke Ellington\, and Louis Armstrong. The festival will also highlight selections and solos from The Monmouth University Chamber Choir\, a performance by the Blue Hawk House Band and a special reading by former United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Natasha Tretheway. The festival will premiere at 7:00 PM on July 1st and be available to view through July 31st. To receive the streaming link for the festival you will need to register. \nThe Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival is designed to provide Monmouth County communities and beyond\, along with the students\, faculty\, and staff at Monmouth University\, with the opportunity to enjoy a top-flight music and arts event each summer. \nIn 2022\, we are looking forward to presenting a robust program of offerings as the festival will host its inaugural in-person event. Our university is the year-round home for working musicians and artists\, not to mention scores of students honing their talents as instrumental and theatrical performers\, visual artists\, and arts administrators. Croce  to bring you access to a special livestream series!  A portion of each ticket sold benefits Monmouth University Center for the Arts. \nThursday\, March 18 – A.J. Croce ‘By Request’ Album Release Show featuring the studio band\nThe album release show celebrates the release of the new A.J. Croce studio album By Request available on CD and LP for pre-order today and out on February 5 via Compass Records. The album was born of memories—of favorite artists and shows\, but mostly\, of late-night gatherings with groups of friends\, many of them fellow musicians\, with Croce at the piano taking requests. \nThursday\, March 25 – A.J. Croce Performing a Retrospective of his 30-Year Career\nA.J. Croce brings his touring band to the stage with him to perform music from his ten studio albums of roots music ranging from Blues and Jazz to Rock and Roll and Soul\, including covers from the new album. This performance will include a variety of originals from albums like That’s Me in the Bar\, Twelve Tales\, and Just Like Medicine.

Ferrone played in Petty’s band\, and the Wildflowers album marked the first recording he did with Petty.
