DESCRIPTION:Click or tap image to download event flyer.\n\nHow Can Civil Discourse Lead to Good Public Policy?\nLeading New Jersey Democrats and Republicans will meet at Monmouth University on March 2 to launch a new conversation series aimed at bridging the political divide through civil discourse.\nMonmouth University introduces Leadership\, Civility\, and Common Ground in Politics and Public Service\, A Public Conversation Series led by New Jersey Sen. Vin Gopal and former New Jersey Sen. Joe Kyrillos The series will launch on March 2\, 2022 with a conversation scheduled for 11:40 a.m. to 1 p.m. The participants will include New Jersey Senate President Nicholas Scutari (D) and New Jersey Senate Minority Leader Steven Oroho (R). \nThe first discussion will focus on how civility in public discourse can lead to good public policy and outcomes. Additionally\, the two legislative leaders will discuss how they plan to engage with one another in their respective roles while demonstrating how civil dialogue has produced positive results during their tenure in public life. \nMonmouth University President Patrick Leahy will provide a welcome address and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Pamela Scott-Johnson will provide opening remarks. \nThis free event will be available via Livestream and is open to the general public\, but registration is required. \nThis event\, which will take place in Pollak Theatre\, is accepting registrations for audience attendance but is limited to Monmouth University community members only due to current guidelines.

DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL REOPENING EVENT!\nPrior to purchasing tickets please review our COVID-19 Safety Measures and Policies. \nMichael Feinstein has built a  dazzling career over the last three decades bringing the music of the Great American songbook to the world. From recordings that have earned him five GRAMMY® Award nominations to his Emmy nominated PBS-TV specials\, his acclaimed NPR series and concerts spanning the globe – in addition to his appearances at iconic venues such as The White House\, Buckingham Palace\, Hollywood Bowl\, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House – his work as an educator and archivist define Feinstein as one of the most important musical forces of our time. \nThe most recent album from his multi-platinum recording career is A Michael Feinstein Christmas from Concord Records. The CD features Grammy Award -winning jazz pianist Alan Broadbent (Paul McCartney\, Diana Krall\, Natalie Cole). Feinstein earned his fifth Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for The Sinatra Project\, his CD celebrating the music of “Ol’ Blue Eyes.” The Sinatra Project\, Volume II: The Good Life was released in 2011. He released the CDs The Power Of Two – collaborating with “Glee” and “30 Rock” star Cheyenne Jackson – and Cheek To Cheek\, recorded with Broadway legend Barbara Cook. For Feinstein’s CD We Dreamed These Days\, he co-wrote the title song with Dr. Maya Angelou. \nHis Emmy Award-nominated TV special Michael Feinstein – The Sinatra Legacy\, which was taped live at the Palladium in Carmel\, IN\, aired across the country in 2011. The PBS series “Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook\,” the recipient of the ASCAP Deems-Taylor Television Broadcast Award\, was broadcast for three seasons and is available on DVD. His most recent primetime PBS-TV Special\, “New Year’s Eve at The Rainbow Room” – written and directed by “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry – aired in 2014.  For his nationally syndicated public radio program “Song Travels\,” Michael interviews and performs alongside of music luminaries such as Bette Midler\, Neil Sedaka\, Liza Minnelli\, Rickie Lee Jones\, David Hyde Pierce and more. \nMichael was born and raised in Columbus\, Ohio\, where he started playing piano by ear as a 5-year-old. After graduating from high school\, he moved to Los Angeles when he was 20. The widow of legendary concert pianist-actor Oscar Levant introduced him to Ira Gershwin in July 1977. Feinstein became Gershwin’s assistant for six years\, which earned him access to numerous unpublished Gershwin songs\, many of which he has since performed and recorded. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a World Cinema Series zoom discussion illuminating the theme “Living on the Edge: Displacement\, Identity\, and Resilience” by analyzing the message and impact of the For Sama (Syria\, 2019). \nFOR SAMA is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter\, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo\, Syria as she falls in love\, gets married and gives birth to Sama\, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her. \nThe film is the first feature documentary by Emmy award-winning filmmakers\, Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts. \nThe discussion of the film will be led by  Dr. Saliba Sarsar\, professor in the department of Political Science and Dr. Sanjana Ragudaran\, Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work. \nThe film is available for streaming on a number of platforms including Vudu\, Amazon Prime Video\, YouTube\, Google Play Movies and TV\, or iTunes (for rent or purchase). \nWhen you register you will be provided the meeting link to join the conversation.
