DESCRIPTION:Monmouth University’s Summer Music and Arts festival is now in its third season—and its first as an in-person event – is taking place on Saturday\, July 9th in the theatres and galleries across campus. With family-friendly programming\, student performances\, a visual arts exhibit and an eclectic evening concert – there truly is something for everyone to enjoy. \nFestival Schedule: \n\nBlue Hawk House Band\nWoods Theatre | 4:00 PM\nTickets: $20\, Children are FREE (must be accompanied by paying adult)\n \nFollowing the Garden State Philharmonic\, Monmouth University’s very own Blue Hawk House Band\, who has been entertaining folks virtually throughout the pandemic monthly during Tuesday Night Record Club\, will make their live debut. These talented students put their very own spin on rock and pop classics. \n\nPoetry\, Jazz and “Harp”Beats\nPollak Theatre | 7:00 PM\nTickets: $38-$50 \nFinally\, the festival will conclude with a capstone evening of Poetry\, Jazz and “Harp”Beats featuring – Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise’s hip-hop poetry with bluesy beats supported by the harp\, New Jersey native and former US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky’s “PoemJazz” with a reading and performance of poems in concert with a variety of jazz improvisations. Also featured on the evening’s bill are the Digba Ogunbiyi Quartet playing original compositions that are deeply rooted in Ogunbiyi’s Nigeria roots\, yet highly informed by his years of studying Jazz; and an opening set by Gregory Schwartz\, former recipient of the Poet Laureate of Asbury Park award. \n\nFront Row Center: Icons of Rock\, Blues\, and Soul\nPollak and DiMattio Galleries\n10:00 AM – 4:00 PM\nFree and open to the public\n\nThroughout the day\, participants are invited to view the iconic photographs of Larry Hulst in the exhibition Front Row Center: Icons of Rock\, Blues\, and Soul on display in Pollak and Ice House Galleries. From Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix to David Bowie and Lauryn Hill the exhibit brings together over 70 images of legendary musicians and singers across three genres showcasing a unique visual anthology of rock\, blues\, and soul music from 1970–1999. The exhibition will run through July 15.\n\nThe Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival is designed to provide Monmouth County communities and beyond\, along with the students\, faculty\, and staff at Monmouth University\, with the opportunity to enjoy a top-flight music and arts event each summer.

DESCRIPTION:Robert Klein is a pioneer in modern stand-up comedy who has inspired heavyweights like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld. For more than forty years\, he has entertained audiences\, and he continues to have an acclaimed career in comedy\, on Broadway\, on television\, and in film. Born in the Bronx\, he was a member of the famed “Second City” theatrical troupe in Chicago. Robert has been nominated twice for Grammy Awards for “Best Comedy Album of the Year” for his albums “Child of the Fifties” and “Mind Over Matter.” \nIn 1975\, Klein was the first comedian to appear in a live concert on Home Box Office. He has gone on to do nine one-man shows for HBO and received his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music and Lyrics in 2001 for Robert Klein: “Child in His 50’s.” \nHis most recent special for HBO\, “Robert Klein: Unfair and Unbalanced”  earned him a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. From recordings that have earned him five GRAMMY® Award nominations to his Emmy nominated PBS-TV specials\, his acclaimed NPR series and concerts spanning the globe – in addition to his appearances at iconic venues such as The White House\, Buckingham Palace\, Hollywood Bowl\, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House – his work as an educator and archivist define Feinstein as one of the most important musical forces of our time. \nThe most recent album from his multi-platinum recording career is A Michael Feinstein Christmas from Concord Records. The CD features Grammy Award -winning jazz pianist Alan Broadbent (Paul McCartney\, Diana Krall\, Natalie Cole). Feinstein earned his fifth Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for The Sinatra Project\, his CD celebrating the music of “Ol’ Blue Eyes.” The Sinatra Project\, Volume II: The Good Life was released in 2011. DESCRIPTION:Entering its 2nd year on the virtual stage\, this year’s Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival will feature members of the Garden State Philharmonic performing music from Civil War era Marches through Ragtime\, Dixieland\, and Jazz featuring music by composers George Gershwin\, Scott Joplin\, C.W. Handy\, Duke Ellington\, and Louis Armstrong. The festival will also highlight selections and solos from The Monmouth University Chamber Choir\, a performance by the Blue Hawk House Band and a special reading by former United States Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner Natasha Tretheway. The festival will premiere at 7:00 PM on July 1st and be available to view through July 31st. To receive the streaming link for the festival you will need to register. \nThe Monmouth University Music & Arts Festival is designed to provide Monmouth County communities and beyond\, along with the students\, faculty\, and staff at Monmouth University\, with the opportunity to enjoy a top-flight music and arts event each summer. \nIn 2022\, we are looking forward to presenting a robust program of offerings as the festival will host its inaugural in-person event. SUMMARY:Virtual Blue Hawk Records Release Show for “Reviver"
DESCRIPTION:With the ever-changing\, and at times frightening outside world\, there is one thing that’s for certain: nothing can stop the music. Blue Hawk Records has been grinding to perfect their seventeenth compilation album\, Reviver. Since the start of the fall 2020 semester\, the team has been meeting regularly\, held in-person and virtual auditions\, went into Lakehouse Recording Studio in Asbury Park to record\, mix\, and master the album\, and is set for an upcoming virtual release show. The release show will be held on Instagram live on December 9 starting at 8 pm. The Instagram handle to tune in to is @bluehawkrecordsoffical. \nIncluded are two rappers\, Hasan Chambers and Gabe Garza\, otherwise known as Double G\, both whose songs take the listener through a story-like experience with a moving message. A&R reps Ethan Christensen and Mikey Sacnhez\, helped arrange\, and recorded on\, artist Charlie Krause’s piano-based song “Those Green Eyes”\, giving it a driving full-band sound. Nick Garretch and his band\, White Wing\, contributed a modern day\, fist-pumping\, rock track with “Out All Night”. With the team’s help\, Monmouth freshman and solo singer-songwriter\, Abby Garcia\, took her once acoustic-only song\, “Silver Linings” and added various musical elements to give it a very current and mystical sound. Rapper-Singer\, Justin Ume\, known as UME\, who already has an impressive following\, contributed the hit-sounding pop track\, “At The Tone”. \nThe Live release show will be hosted by one of Monmouth University’s WMCX top DJ’s\, Kayla Booker\, and will feature live performances by our artists. \nYou can find and follow Blue Hawk Records at @bluehawkrecordsofficial \n

Kelli Barrett originated the role of ‘Lara Guishar’ in Broadway’s Doctor Zhivago and has also played leading roles in Broadway’s Wicked\, Baby It’s You! and The Royal Family. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in 2018 and ceased touring at that time. \nGordon Marshall\, drummer with The Moody Blues for over 25 years\, knew that there was a hunger in the market for Moody Blues music.  To fill the void\, he put together an amazing group of musicians and formed the band GO NOW!\, a tribute to the music of The Moody Blues. Mick Wilson\, the lead singer of GO NOW!\, was the lead singer with 10cc for over 20 years.  Gordon and Mick are joined on stage by Patrick Duffin\, Ryan Farmery and Nick Kendall\, and together recreate the magical music we all know including all the major hits.  With 25 years experience with The Moody Blues\, Gordon has created true-to-the-original arrangements\, making every performance truly magical. \nThe live streamed performance at the Harlequin Theatre in London marks the first time since early spring that the band will come together and perform\, on stage at this beautiful theatre\, with a brand new\, never before seen concert!

DESCRIPTION:This semester\, Blue Hawk Records will be hosting their first ever virtual release show on the Blue Hawk Records Instagram page for their new album Sweet 16 on May 6 at 8pm.  \nOver the past few weeks\, student life at Monmouth University\, and everywhere\, has changed dramatically\, due to COVID – 19. Like all other schools and universities across the country\, Monmouth has moved to online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester. However\, despite the chaotic and tumultuous situation students found themselves\, Blue Hawk Records carried on with its plans to release its 16th studio album. They innovated and found a way to remotely produce\, promote and release the spring 2020 compilation EP\, “Sweet 16”. A first for the student-run record label\, as well as most major record labels. \nArtists on “Sweet 16” include Monmouth students\, Shadiyah\, featuring Gabriel Garza\, Nicole Totland\, Bruce Davis\, featuring Janae\, Mikey Sanchez\, Drew Fournier\, and Monmouth alumni\, Anya Schildge Angeloni ‘12M\, along with an ensemble of accompanying student musicians and producers. \nSweet 16 will be available for streaming on all digital platforms on May 8. \nYou can find and follow Blue Hawk Records at @bluehawkrecordsofficial

DESCRIPTION:Max Hatt / Edda Glass have “an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and “a unique sound” (Larry Groce\, NPR)\, comprised of Glass’s unmistakable voice and Hatt’s lyrical guitar. Originally based in Montana\, their award-winning original music and unique interpretations of American and Brazilian standards have taken them all the way to New York City’s Lincoln Center\, DC’s Kennedy Center\, NPR Mountain Stage\, Sundance Film Fest and Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. Praised for her “impeccable vocal command” (PopMatters) and compared to a gamut of singers from Astrud Gilberto to Billie Holiday\, Glass’s voice is ultimately “one of a kind…you cannot confuse her with another artist” (New York Theatre Guide). Hatt’s equally distinctive guitar work combines the harmonic innovations of jazz with the melodic resonance of folk\, creating music that’s “subtly poignant\, elegantly funky\, and haunting without trying to be” (Nels Cline\, Wilco).
