SUMMARY:Light of Day Foundation presents: Alejandro Escovedo & the Sensitive Boys with Special Guest Amy Cook
DESCRIPTION:Alejandro Escovedo is a roots rock/alternative country singer/songwriter from Austin\, Texas. He began a career in the early 1980’s that spans 14 albums\, thousands of live shows and hundreds of thousands of miles on the road forging an identity that is one with his muse and his music. Over a lifetime spent traversing the bridge between words and melody\, he has ranged over an emotional depth that embraces all forms of genre and presentation\, a resolute voice that weathers the emotional terrain of our lives\, its celebrations and despairs\, it’s land mines\, blindsides\, upheavals and beckoning distractions\, in search of ultimate release and the healing truth of honesty. Sometimes it takes the form of barely contained rage\, the rock of punk amid kneeled feedback; sometimes it caresses and soothes\, a whispery harmony riding the air of a nightclub room\, removed from amplification\, within the audience. Alejandro has worked his musical magic a number of times at the Jersey Shore\, at the legendary Stone Pony\, at the Count Basie Theatre and at the Paramount Theater headlining the Light of Day Festival in Asbury Park where he was joined by his friends Willie Nile\, Joe Grushecky\, Jesse Malin and Bruce Springsteen. Nationally syndicated radio shows such as Little Steven Van Zandt’s Underground Garage continue to give prominent attention to Escovedo and his music\, continuing to play songs such as  “Silver Cloud” from his 2010 album Street Songs of Love as well as music from his most recent record 2012’s Big Station. His family boasts several professional musicians including his niece\, drummer/percussionist Sheila E.  With Special Guest Amy Cook. \nTickets on sale now online\, by phone and in person at the Pollak Theatre and MAC Box Offices.Visit lightofday.org for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Known worldwide for transcending the limits of tradition\, the New York City-based string quartet ETHEL\, comprised of Ralph Farris (viola)\, Dorothy Lawson (cello)\, Kip Jones (violin) and Tema Watstein (violin)\, has for the past decade and a half actively\, aggressively\, joyfully\, adapted their epic skill-set to the presentation of rainbow-colored music of every style and description. Guitarist Kaki King\, recognized as one of “The New Guitar Gods” by Rolling Stone has\, likewise\, won an enthusiastic international following as her gutsy\, honest\, and astonishingly beautiful works seem to defy gravity. Brought together\, these celebrated sound worlds intermingle and swarm to create a glorious and inspired collaboration. \n … And Other Stories is an electrifying immersion in brilliant instrumental skill\, rich sonic adventures\, and flights of fantastic storytelling. The collaboration is anchored by a groundbreaking re-imagining of Bach’s masterful Brandenburg Concerto #6 and also includes works from ETHEL’s repertoire by Phil Kline and John Zorn. Original works by Kaki King and a world premiere composition for ETHEL & Kaki King by Serbian composer Aleksandra Vrebalov round out the program.

DESCRIPTION:The Sounds of Asbury Park and other Shore points are celebrated when a pair of musically minded Jersey Joes — Joe D’Urso and Joe Rapolla — bring their Songwriters by the Sea series of intimate\, relaxed\, and inspired round-robins to the Pollak Theatre stage. What started out as a coffee shop show for area songwriters to casually perform with other writers in Asbury Park has quickly evolved into a national series featuring some of the top songwriters in music today. Artists to perform include Marshall Crenshaw\, David Johansen and Allison Moorer. Opening the show will be Monmouth University students Natalie Zeller\, Bryan Haring and Erin Holmes. \n

Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen are widely known to be two of the best and most prolific songwriters of their generation. DESCRIPTION:In his young career\, ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro has already redefined a heretofore under-the-radar instrument\, been declared a musical “hero” by Rolling Stone\, won accolades from the disparate likes of Eddie Vedder\, Perez Hilton and Dr. Sanjay Gupta\, wowed audiences on TV (Jimmy Kimmel\, Conan)\, earned comparisons to Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis\, and even played in front of the Queen of England.  In this double-header concert he is joined by singer\, songwriter and musician Keller Williams who has defined the term independent artist.
