SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Edda Glass and Max Hatt
DESCRIPTION:Max Hatt / Edda Glass have “an incomparable spook” (Nashville Scene) and “a unique sound” (Larry Groce\, NPR)\, comprised of Glass’s unmistakable voice and Hatt’s lyrical guitar. Originally based in Montana\, their award-winning original music and unique interpretations of American and Brazilian standards have taken them all the way to New York City’s Lincoln Center\, DC’s Kennedy Center\, NPR Mountain Stage\, Sundance Film Fest and Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. Praised for her “impeccable vocal command” (PopMatters) and compared to a gamut of singers from Astrud Gilberto to Billie Holiday\, Glass’s voice is ultimately “one of a kind…you cannot confuse her with another artist” (New York Theatre Guide). Hatt’s equally distinctive guitar work combines the harmonic innovations of jazz with the melodic resonance of folk\, creating music that’s “subtly poignant\, elegantly funky\, and haunting without trying to be” (Nels Cline\, Wilco). Together\, Max Hatt / Edda Glass evoke a world that stretches from the beaches of Rio de Janeiro to the prairies of the American west\, telling stories of little people on great plains\, and leaving audiences with a feeling both light and deep.

SUMMARY:The Smithereens with Guest Vocalist Marshall Crenshaw
DESCRIPTION:“The Smithereens roared into the breach. They are one of those rare bands who produce great-sounding recordings… and sound even greater live.” -Kevin Coughlon \nSpecial guest vocalist Marshall Crenshaw will be joining Jim Babjak\, Dennis Diken and Mike Mesaros of The Smithereens. \nKnown for their catchy 1960s-influenced power pop that inspired countless alternative rockers\, The Smithereens gained popularity with “11” the album that spawned college campus favorites “A Girl Like You”\, “Blood and Roses” & “Blue Period”. In April of 2011 Smithereens released “2011” their first album of new material in 12 years. Produced by Don Dixon (who helmed “Especially For You”\, the group’s breakout debut)\, the seminal New Jersey rockers picked up right where they left off: with irresistibly catchy hooks and rapturously fuzzed-out guitars. Now they’re back on the road with their catalog of classic hits as well as new favorites. Following the sad passing of lead vocalist Pat DiNizio in 2017\, original members Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals)\, Dennis Diken (drums & percussion) and Mike Mesaros on bass guitar carry on the Smithereens legacy. \nOver the course of a recording career that’s spanned three decades\, 13 albums and hundreds of songs\, Marshall Crenshaw’s musical output has maintained a consistently high level of artistry\, craftsmanship and passion\, endearing him to a broad and loyal fan base. After getting an early break playing John Lennon in a touring company of the Broadway musical Beatlemania\, Crenshaw began his recording career with the now-legendary indie single “Something’s Gonna Happen.” The Eighties saw Marshall hit the charts again with “Someday\, Someway\,” “Cynical Girl\,” “Whenever You’re On My Mind\,” “Maryanne\,” “You’re My Favorite Waste of Time” and more compositions covered by artists including Ronnie Spector\, Gin Blossoms and Bette Midler. Crenshaw is recognized as one of the era’s preeminent rock ’ n’ rollers\, confirmed by such subsequent albums as Field Day\, Downtown\, Mary Jean & 9 Others\, Good Evening\, Life’s Too Short\, Miracle of Science\, #447\, What’s in the Bag? and Jaggedland.

SUMMARY:Pat Metheny Side-Eye w/ James Francies & Marcus Gilmore
DESCRIPTION:Pat Metheny is launching a new playing environment called “Side-Eye” for this upcoming season. \nPat explains “I wanted to create an ongoing setting to feature a rotating cast of new and upcoming musicians who have particularly caught my interest along the way.” \nPat continues “From my earliest days in Kansas City onward\, I was the beneficiary of so many older musicians giving me a platform to develop my thing through the prism of their experience and the particular demands of what their music implied. I have been feeling like I wanted to have a specific platform to focus on some of the many younger musicians I have enjoyed recently who I have felt some kind of a kinship with.” \n“I hear regularly from new players on the scene who have professed an influence from my records and tunes and I often invite them up to my house to play. Very often\, it is really natural and organic to the music to play with them\, they have literally grown up with it. I find myself inspired by how they deal with the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tunes\, and at the same time I find myself intrigued with the possibilities of what might be possible in writing new music just for them. This band setting is what that will be all about.”

SUMMARY:Songwriters by the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Distinguished NJ Songwriters Joe Rapolla and Joe D’Urso are back this year hosting the celebrated Songwriters by the Sea series at the Lauren K. Woods Theatre. What once started in a small coffee shop as an area for local songwriters has now grown into a series that features some of the top songwriters in the country. This year\, the show features special guest artists Jeffrey Gaines and ERYN with an intro set by Mark Geary. The show will also feature Monmouth University student openers: Max Adolf and Kelli Misenheimer. \nThroughout his two-and-a-half-decade recording career\, Jeffrey Gaines has maintained an impressive standard for soul-searching\, introspective lyrics and catchy\, uplifting melodies. Since bursting on the scene with his self-titled 1992 debut album\, the charismatic singer-songwriter-guitarist has built a beloved body of recordings that’s won him a large and deeply devoted international fan base. Now\, after an extended absence from the recording studio\, Gaines returns with Alright\, his first Omnivore Recordings release and his first set of new studio material since 2003’s Toward the Sun. Street date is January 26\, 2018. The new album features ten irresistible examples of the Philadelphia-based artist’s personally charged songcraft\, performed with the same effortless exuberance that’s long been a hallmark of Gaines’ artful recordings and his dazzling live performances. \nEryn combines the old school sound that evokes the rhythms and recording techniques of the past with a modern pop mindset and powerhouse live performance. She is the youngest person to be inducted into the NJ/NY Blues Hall of Fame\, a BELK southern musician showcase winner\, and a multi Asbury Park Music award winner. \nSponsored by the Leon Hess Business School\nAll proceeds benefit the Music Industry Endowed Scholarship

SUMMARY:Matt O'Ree Band
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few years\, The Matt O’Ree Band has done what most area bands do. They’ve played their shows\, developed their sound\, released their records and very quietly built a massive fan base in the process. \nWhat makes this band different from all the others is that their local fan base includes Bruce Springsteen\, David Bryan and Steve Cropper\, all of whom have volunteered to perform on the band’s latest album\, “Brotherhood”. \nPrior to Brotherhood’s release\, Matt’s talent was recognized globally when he got the nod to join rock legends Bon Jovi as their guitarist/backing vocalist on their 2015 stadium tour of the Far East. \nIn addition to being a creative songwriter\, Matt was recognized by the industry as a guitar great after winning a national guitar contest hosted by BB King and John Mayer through Guitar Center and Guitar World Magazine. Matt beat out over 4\,000 competitors to win the grand prize which consisted of multiple guitars\, an endorsement from Gibson\, a shopping spree at Guitar Center and a new car from Scion. This major accomplishment was the spark that jump started his career and gave his band momentum for their future success. \nGrowing up on influencers ranging from Jimi Hendrix\, Cream\, Led Zeppelin\, Deep Purple\, Rory Gallagher\, ZZ Top\, Robin Trower\, Joe Walsh and Stevie Ray Vaughan\, The Matt O’Ree Band has taken all these diverse elements and forged a new iron. \nThe band takes their fans on a ride that hasn’t been heard or seen at this level since the ’70s. Their live show is like revisiting a Zeppelin concert at the Garden\, and with Scott Bennert on bass\, John Hummel on drums\, Layonne Holmes and Eryn Shewell laying down angelically gutsy backing vocals\, and keyboard duties brilliantly shared by Matt Wade and Dave Archer\, Matt and company have built a foundation that can hold up the biggest house on the block. \nAfter years of honing their craft\, the Matt O’Ree Band has become an overnight success. Get M.O.B.’d up with New Jersey’s next great export.

SUMMARY:The Hunts
DESCRIPTION:Known for their harmony-laced take on alt-folk\, The Hunts are a Chesapeake\, Virginia-based band of seven siblings who’ve been playing music together almost their entire lives. Twin sisters Jessi and Jenni and five brothers Josh\, Jonathan\, Jordan\, Justin\, and Jamison\, now ranging in age from 26 down to 17\, learned to sing and play violin as young kids and spent much of their childhood performing in their community. After widening their following and playing at theaters\, festivals and universities around the country—and teaching themselves to play instruments like mandolin\, piano\, ukulele\, banjo\, and drums — The Hunts started experimenting with songwriting and soon brought to life a batch of songs that reveal their sophisticated sense of melody and undeniably dreamy innocence. \nInspired by shared memories\, The Hunts have created songs that capture heartache and wonder with a wide-eyed but wistful elegance. The Hunts hold true to a songwriting process that taps into each member’s unique strengths but remains intensely collaborative. That unified approach infuses their music with an irresistible richness of spirit. Their songs are artfully arranged yet instilled with a graceful simplicity. While getting seven strong-minded brothers and sisters to agree on every last note and lyric can sometimes be chaotic\, The Hunts note that the synergy born from that chaos is what makes the band so strong.

SUMMARY:Kiss the Sky
DESCRIPTION:GUITAR GODS – HENDRIX AND CLAPTON! \nKiss The Sky- The World’s Greatest Jimi Hendrix Show plays with special guests Heavy Cream’s salute to Cream. This night will be a trip back in Rock n Roll history as it recreates some of the most iconic music of 1968 produced by the two artists who famously turned a rivalry into friendship and mutual admiration for each other. \nFavorites from Hendrix’s landmark 1968 album “Electric Ladyland” and Cream’s powerhouse “Wheels of Fire” will highlight the evening. \nABOUT KISS THE SKY \nRolling Stone Magazine Says: “Yes believe the hype! This show lives up to it!“ \nThe Village Voice NYC Says: “Bringing Music History To Life.“ \nKiss The Sky-World’s Greatest Jimi Hendrix Show is the #1 Hendrix act in the world. They are so spot on at keeping the memory of Jimi Hendrix alive that remaining members of Hendrix’s own bands have joined them on stage. Earlier this year they were hand picked to perform on the 2018 Flower Power Cruise where they were hailed as the “Buzz of the Boat”. Also on the cruise were rock legends including Micky Dolenz of The Monkees\, Canned Heat and Grand Funk Railroad. \nJimy Bleu stars as Jimi Hendrix and is the world’s longest running Jimi Hendrix Performance Artist. Just like Hendrix\, Jimy Bleu is a virtuoso\, left-handed guitarist and performs all of Hendrix’s signature stage moves. He recreates the legendary sounds and moves of Hendrix so well that he has also been a touring member of Billy Cox’s Band. Billy was the original bass player of Jimi Hendrix’s own Band of Gypsys. \nKiss The Sky WOWS audiences with their Hendrix look and sound alike musicians performing in full replica wardrobe and stage gear.  More then a concert\, the show celebrates all phases of the short yet iconic career and concerts of Jimi Hendrix’s bands The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys. \nSince 2016 Kiss The Sky has toured nationally to rave reviews playing at venues and festivals across the country. \nBilly Cox\, Hendrix Bassist and band mate with Band Of Gypsys: \n“Jimy Bleu is the real deal. A Jimi Hendrix aficionado” \nJuma Sultan\, Hendrix Percussionist – 1969 Woodstock band – the Gypsy Sun and Rainbows \n“When it comes to performing Jimi’s music\, I don’t impress easily and there is no question that KTS is the most detailed and historically accurate Jimi tribute show I’ve seen. Jimy Bleu truly brings the Hendrix spirit to the stage. And that is no small task. They have my full endorsement.” \nKatie Daryl\, Host and producer of AXS-TV show The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands: “Kiss The Sky is spectacular! So often with tribute bands people say close your eyes\, they sound just like them\, but with Kiss The Sky you MUST keep your eyes open because the guitar playing\, vintage gear\, costumes and stage presence of the band is so very precise and out of this world your jaw will drop!” \nOPENING BAND HEAVY CREAM \nHEAVY CREAM is quickly becoming the definitive tribute to CREAM\, rock music’s original SUPER GROUP! \nFor the first time\, with stunning historical accuracy in both look and sound\, a tribute to Cream has been assembled…HEAVY CREAM out of PHILADELPHIA starring teenage guitar phenom Billy “The Kid” Thoden in the part of Eric Clapton. Billy was named “The Kid” by ZZ Top’ Billy Gibbons. He was discovered by Jimi Hendrix bassist Billy Cox\, has opened for Pat Travers and Robert Randolph and performed alongside Eric Gales and Dickey Betts. \nHeavy Cream features replicated gear including the famous ‘Fool’ artwork guitars of Clapton and Bruce and Ginger Baker’s legendary double Ludwig drum kit\, as well as Cream’s signature stack of British Marshall Amps\, plus authentic wardrobe that Cream actually used at their most memorable 60’s shows\, this band’s three world class musicians recreate Cream’s classic concerts for today’s audiences.
