DESCRIPTION:Fusing folk\, jazz\, pop and classical styles\, Two-time GRAMMY winner Laurence Juber creates a multifaceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument. Lead guitarist for Paul McCartney’s Wings\, Juber is a world-class guitar virtuoso solo artist\, composer and arranger. Laurence Juber has released 18 critically acclaimed solo albums\, including Guitarist and PCH. His solo CD\, Pop Goes Guitar\, includes the arrangement of Stand By Me that was heard nationally in the ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ commercial. His last release\, Wooden Horses\, showcases LJ’s compositions for solo guitar\, and his latest CD is LJ Plays The Beatles Vol.2\, a follow-up to Vol 1 which is one of Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s all-time Top Ten acoustic albums. Juber is featured on the CD Poppin’ Guitars\, a tribute to the music of the Sherman Brothers\, and can be seen in the documentary film\, The Brothers\, about those celebrated Disney composers. \nAs a studio musician\, his playing can be currently heard on ABC Family channel’s hit show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Juber has also co-composed the soundtrack of the upcoming Blizzard Entertainment video game Diablo 3 and crafted the score to the recent NBC Dateline documentary “Children Of The Harvest.” His music is also featured in the Ken Burns documentary “The Tenth Inning.” \n“Juber is a master of acoustic finger style\, but with less of the trick-guitar mishmash that seems obligatory among the high octane pickers. SUMMARY:Borealis Wind Quintet and The Monmouth Winds
DESCRIPTION:The\nBorealis Wind Quintet\, like the Spectacular Aurora Borealis\, displays a\nbrilliant array of sparkling color and magic in the music they perform.\nNominated for a Grammy in 2006\, they are without question the major wind\nquintet of our time. \nTheir warm yet commanding stage presence\, combined with great music\, always\ncaptivates the audience. Engaging and delightful\, the Borealis brings a fresh\nsound and an exciting program to each performance. They are recognized for\ntheir fundamental contributions to the wind quintet literature with their many\ncommissions\, recordings\, and editions of rare and traditional music. \nTheir tours have taken them to major halls throughout the U.S. including Weill\nHall (Carnegie) in New York\, the Frick Museum\, Princeton\, Notre Dame\, Wolf\nTrap\, Four Seasons in Berkeley\, Strathmore in Maryland and the Corning Museum\nin New York\, just to name a few. The Borealis recordings number five with one\nGrammy nomination. The latest\, Borealis En Salon\, is both lush and elegant. \nThe Monmouth Winds\, formed in 2009\, features five\nmusicians from the Garden State: Jenny Cline\, flute; Nicholas Gatto\, oboe;\nRichard Grossman\, clarinet; Richard Sachs\, horn; and Linda Balavram\, bassoon.\nThey have been steadily building a following\, delighting audiences in the\ntri-state area with their entertaining performances of eclectic\nrepertoire.  Lately they have been busy commissioning new works for their\nensemble\, including works by Jeffrey Scott\, Gary Schocker\, Daniel Dorff\, David\nEvan Thomas and Laurence Dresner.  They have performed at the 2013 (New\nOrleans) and 2015 (Washington\, D.C.) National Flute Association conventions\,\nand they will be premiering their next commission\, a work by Eric Ewazen\, at\nthe Juilliard School this fall.

DESCRIPTION:Attendees are presented with traditional pieces of Irish music\, folklore and dance. Following the historic time-line of Irish emigration to the United States\, participants are made aware of the evolution of Irish music\, once immigrants reached America. They will  listen to the transformation of Irish music into today’s western\, jazz and bluegrass. The resurgence of Irish music\, dance and culture are also examined.  \nBrian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack of Switchback have been playing their brand of eclectic Celtic and Americana music at sold-out concert halls\, performing arts centers and festivals for over 20 years. Featuring a mix of Irish music and original songs\, their concerts have been described as “breathtaking scenery for your ears.” With a mix of mandolin\, guitar\, and bass their harmonies have won comparisons to the Louvin Brothers\, the Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel.  \nHeld in conjunction with the concert featuring Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill with Switchback on April 22 at 8 PM in Pollak Theatre

The attraction of Jimmy LaFave’s music lies in his voice and vision that strikes responsive chords at the heart of folk\, blues and American roots rock & roll. Jimmy has devoted most of his life to making music\, beginning as a young boy in Texas\, then moving to Oklahoma where he crafted his sound\, a combining his experiences among authentic songwriters from the tradition of Woody Guthrie. His discography includes 8 critically acclaimed CDs and he has toured extensively through the U.S. and Europe.  Amy Helm’s deep musical roots are enriched by her stunning vocal and other creative gifts revealing a spellbinding artist who moves easily through a broad range of musical styles. The daughter of music legend Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus Fagen\, Helm wields a powerful voice that can both stir and soothe\, whether she is singing traditional gospel\, blues standards or her own heartfelt compositions.

SUMMARY:Andy Statman
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Jewish Cultural Studies Program at Monmouth University. \nHad there been a planetarium in 19th-century Galicia\, or a kosher deli in Depression-era Kentucky\, Andy Statman’s music might have been playing in the background. Meandering through time\, geography and\nculture in a few passionate\, organic gusts of music\, neither the man nor his inimitable hybrid sound has a very clearly defined “before” or “after.” Statman\, one of his generation’s premier mandolinists and clarinetists\, thinks of his compositions as “a spontaneous\, American-roots form of very personal\, prayerful Hasidic music\, by way of avant-garde jazz.” \nThis modest man takes for granted that a performer might embody several worlds in his art\, and seems not to recognize that his music\, like his story\, is extraordinary. It’s a story Statman rewrites with his trio every time they perform: “We’re creating an experience between the audience and us.” Statman performs his distinctive\, unconstrained meditations on jazz\, klezmer\, bluegrass and the human soul with bassist Jim Whitney and percussionist Larry Eagle. “At a certain point\, we’re just talking\, just having a threeway conversation.” This “conversation” changes each time they have it on stage\, no melody sounding quite the same as it did before\, and none bearing the definitive stamp of the genre that spawned it. A totally unselfconscious performer\, Statman does not mind that many audiences leave slightly befuddled as to what kind\nof music\, exactly\, they have just heard.
