SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen – John Singer Sargent: Fashion & Swagger
DESCRIPTION:John Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters\, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience. Through interviews with curators\, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers\, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art\, culture and fashion. \nFilmed at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston and the Tate Britain\, London\, the exhibition reveals Sargent’s power to express distinctive personalities\, power dynamics and gender identities during this fascinating period of cultural reinvention. Alongside 50 paintings by Sargent sit stunning items of clothing and accessories worn by his subjects\, drawing the audience into the artist’s studio. \nStep into the glittering world of fashion\, scandal and shameless self-promotion that made John Singer Sargent the painter who defined an era. \n

SUMMARY:El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
DESCRIPTION:On May 30\, the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live\ntransmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera\, a “confident\, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen – Tokyo Stories
DESCRIPTION:Based on a major exhibition at the Ashmolean in Oxford\, Tokyo Stories spans 400 years of incredibly dynamic art – ranging from the delicate woodblock prints of Hokusai and Hiroshige\, to Pop Art posters\, contemporary photography\, Manga\, film\, and brand-new artworks that were created on the streets. The film uses the exhibition as a launchpad to travel to Tokyo itself\, exploring the art and artists of the city more fully\, and telling the stories of the people who have made Tokyo famous for its boundless drive for the new and innovative. \nA beautifully illustrated and richly detailed film\, looking at a city which has undergone constant destruction and renewal over its 400-year history\, resulting in one of the most vibrant and interesting cities on the planet… \nTokyo has a powerful engine that just doesn’t stop. There is an\nenergy\, a particular floating power in Tokyo. Whatever happens\, this\ncity gets rebuilt again and continues to move forwards.”\n– Machida Kumi
