SUMMARY:William Close and the Earth Harp Collective
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FROM JAN. 23\, 2016 \n William Close and the Earth Harp Collective recently pushed the boundaries of the “performance experience” when they finished third on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent.” The group received massive praise and admiration from fans and all three judges. William Close is an installation artist and musician who has developed over 100 new types of musical instruments. He is the inventor of the majestic stringed instrument\, The Earth Harp\, the world’s largest stringed instrument. Featuring the Earth Harp at the center of the group and many other signature instruments designed by Close\, William and the Earth Harp Collective is the latest adventure in the innovator’s already outstanding career.  \nWilliam’s work explores the connection between architecture and music.  Inspired by the Frank Lloyd Wright quote “architecture is frozen music\,” Close creates musical installations that use the architecture as part of the instrument. DESCRIPTION:Hip-Hop is the largest youth culture in the history of the planet rock. It has produced generations of artists who have revolutionized their genre(s) by applying the aesthetic innovations of the culture. \nThe BreakBeat Poets features 78 poets\, born somewhere between 1961-1999\, All-City and Coast-to-Coast\, who are creating the next and now movement(s) in American letters. This is the first poetry anthology by and for the Hip-Hop generation. It is for people who love Hip-Hop\, for fans of the culture\, for people who’ve never read a poem\, for people who thought poems were only something done by dead white dudes who got lost in a forest\, and for poetry heads. This anthology is meant to expand the idea of who a poet is and what a poem is for. \nThe BreakBeat Poets are the scribes recording and remixing a fuller spectrum of experience of what it means to be alive in this moment. The BreakBeat Poets are a break with the past and an honoring of the tradition(s)\, an undeniable body expanding the canon for the fresher.

DESCRIPTION:Sexual Assault Examination Across the Lifespan\nThis program is designed for the RN with at least 2 years recent clinical experience desiring to obtain the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to provide effective health care and services to victims of sexual assault. SUMMARY:J. Seward Johnson Sculptures
DESCRIPTION:Following an early career as a painter\, Seward Johnson turned his talents to the medium of sculpture. Since then\, more than 450 of Johnson’s life-size cast bronze figures have been featured in private collections and museums in the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Asia\, as well as prominent places in the public realm such as Rockefeller Center\, Pacific Place\, Hong Kong\, Les Halles in Paris\, and Via Condotti in Rome. Seward Johnson is most widely known for his sculptures depicting people engaged in every day activities. Johnson’s desire to highlight the mundane in his Celebrating the Familiar sculpture series has brought a unique voice to the world of art in public spaces. \nJohnson is often recognized for his most dramatic work — and also his largest — the 70’ aluminum giant entitled The Awakening. This sculpture was selected for the International Sculpture Conference & Exhibition and is currently sited along the Potomac River at National Harbor in Washington\, DC. This work was profiled in LIFE magazine\, Time Magazine and has become a “must see” destination in the nation’s capitol. In recent years\, Seward Johnson’s monumental scale sculptures have captured the attention of the international media and a global audience. Among these are the 26 foot tall Forever Marilyn with her skirt blowing upwards defying the stainless steel and aluminum materials. SUMMARY:Celebrated Author Erik Larson To Speak at Monmouth University
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated author Erik Larson will speak at Monmouth University on Monday\, March 28\, 2016\, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in Pollak Theatre. This event is free and open to the public. \n \nErik Larson has written five books that have appeared on the New York Times‘ bestseller list\, including such critically acclaimed works as In the Garden of Beasts: Love\, Terror\, and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin and The Devil in the White City. Mr. Larson’s most recent book is  Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania\, which deals with the implications of the sinking of the Lusitania by German torpedoes in May 1915 and will be the subject of his talk. \nThis event is the inaugural lecture in the Department of History and Anthropology’s Charles Mayes World War I Lecture Series. \nMr. Larson’s talk at Monmouth University will be his first public appearance since the release of Dead Wake in paperback.
