SUMMARY:Into the Wild\, Art Exhibit by Eileen Kennedy
DESCRIPTION:Artist Reception: Friday\, Sept. 26\, 6-8pm \nGallery Exhibit: September 1 – October 25\, 2025 \nEileen Kennedy’s narrative art explores the relationship between contemporary humans and the natural world. The artist holds a BFA from Pratt Institute. She also studied at the Arts Students League of New York\, the Hartford Art School\, and numerous workshops. \nKennedy emerged from Pratt in 1977 as an abstract painter; however\, within a few years the narrative urge brought her back to figurative work. She enrolled in night classes at the Art Students League to refresh her drawing skills and for the next two decades made life-scale\, figurative oil paintings and drawings influenced by the Flemish school\, especially Jan van Eyck and Rogier Van der Weyden. \nIn 2009\, she took some time out to explore egg tempera\, a medium that had enchanted her since she discovered the work of George Tooker while still in art school. She completed several workshops with contemporary egg tempera master\, Koo Schadler. Kennedy found this medium perfectly suited her linear style and love for detail. She soon gave away her oil paints and brushes. \nKennedy has exhibited throughout the mid-Atlantic region and beyond including the Brooklyn Museum\, Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art\, Monmouth Museum\, Widener University Art Museum\, Attleboro Arts Museum\, Painted Bride Art Center\, AIR Gallery\, Blue Mountain Gallery\, Monmouth University\, Williams Center for the Arts\, Manifest Center for the Arts\, Dacia Gallery\, Lore Degenstein Gallery and others. Her works have been featured in the New York Times\, Philadelphia Inquirer\, Newark Star Ledger\, American Art Collector Magazine\, Fine Art Connoisseur Newsletter\, Create Magazine and other publications. \nIn 1995 and 2022 Kennedy was awarded artist fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. In 2022 her work was included in the Lunar Codex Project\, which sent images of art from all over the world to the moon in 2024. Her work is included in the collections of the Yuko Nii Foundation\, Riverview Medical Center\, Pratt Institute and numerous private\ncollections. The artist lives and works in Toms River\, New Jersey. When not making\nart\, she plays mandolin in the Celtic trio\, The Kilkenny Cats. \n

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen - The Danish Collector
DESCRIPTION:“This beautifully realised documentary showcases a treasure trove of some of the finest Impressionist artworks ever painted.”  Sydney Arts Review \nFor many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet\, Degas and Renoir were vilified\, attacked\, and left penniless as a result. \nThen\, something remarkable happened. A new breed of collectors emerged and\, before long\, they were battling to acquire any work by these new\, radical artists that they could find. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history; full of drama\, intrigue and subterfuge. \n“Films such as… The Danish Collector are an invaluable step in ensuring that art is shared widely”  FilmInk \nSome collectors we may recognise and some we may not\, but Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home\, Ordrupgaard\, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Exhibition on Screen tells his fascinating story and\, with exclusive access to a sell-out exhibition at London’s Royal Academy\, brings the extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition. \nFrom Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris\, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected. \nDirected by David Bickerstaff

SUMMARY:EOS Encore - Michelangelo: Love & Death
DESCRIPTION:The spectacular sculptures and paintings of Michelangelo seem so familiar to us\, but what do we really know about this Renaissance giant? Michelangelo’s genius is evident in everything he touched. Beautiful and diverse works such as the towering statue of David\, the moving Pietà in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter and his tour-de-force\, the Sistine Chapel ceiling\, still leave us breathless today. \nSpanning his 88 years\, Michelangelo – Love and Death takes a cinematic journey through the print and drawing rooms of Europe through the great chapels and museums of Florence\, Rome and the Vatican to seek out a deeper understanding of this legendary figure’s tempestuous life\, his relationship with his contemporaries and his incredible legacy. \nThrough expert commentary\, stunning visuals and Michelangelo’s own words\, this film takes a fresh look at a master artist whose life and genius are celebrated in every mark he made. Returning to cinemas in 2025 to celebrate this iconic artist’s 550th birthday. \nSculptor\, painter\, architect\, poet\, genius – discover why Michelangelo is without a doubt one of the greatest artists of all time.

SUMMARY:Organized Crime and Abortion (Works in Progress Seminar)
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Katherine Parkin\, Ph.D.\, Professor\, Department of History and Anthropology; Jules Plangere\, Jr.\, Endowed Chair in American Social History \nOrganized crime played a role in the experience of many securing\, providing\, and paying for abortions before they were legalized. The high rates for the procedure made illegal abortion in the 1960s the third largest moneymaker for organized crime. However\, most studies by historians\, criminologists\, and sociologists have not considered how\, where\, and when organized criminals and their accomplices profited from abortion. This study of organized crime includes those providing abortions and lending money nationally\, including relatives of Frank Sinatra and Drea de Matteo (“The Sopranos”) who provided illegal abortions in New York City.

SUMMARY:Pysanky: Learn the Art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: Tuesday\, April 15 | 6 – 8:30 PM\n\n\nCome celebrate the spring at Monmouth University with this unique opportunity to learn the seasonal ancient art known as Pysanky. Pysanky\, also known as Ukrainian eggs\, is an ancient folk tradition that has been passed down for thousands of years. This meditative and communal experience is unlike any other art process and for many this workshop marks the beginning of a spring time family tradition that can be passed on and enjoyed for years to come. This tutorial will cover the history and traditions surrounding Pysanky\, a demonstration\, and independent practice session. The instructor will provide a variety of eggs\, dyes\, and tools. Participants will turn real eggs into works of art using a wax resist method similar to batik. A great deal of patience and concentration is required to complete a single egg\, but it is very rewarding to reveal your hard work when the wax layers are taken off. In-person attendance will be extremely limited.\n\nNo prerequisite skills are required. Please bring a container or old egg carton to take home your creation. Ages 18+

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen - Dawn Of Impressionism\, Paris 1874
DESCRIPTION:The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history – millions flock every year to marvel at their masterpieces. But\, to begin with\, they were scorned\, penniless outsiders. 1874 was the year that changed everything; the first Impressionists\, “hungry for independence”\, broke the mould by holding their own exhibition outside official channels. Impressionism was born and the art world was changed forever. \nWhat led to that first groundbreaking show 150 years ago? Who were the maverick personalities that wielded their brushes in such a radical and provocative way? The spectacular Musée d’Orsay exhibition brings fresh eyes to this extraordinary tale of passion and rebellion. The story is told not by historians and curators but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists\, press and people of Paris\, 1874. See the show that changed everything on the big screen. \nMade in close collaboration with the Musee d’Orsay and National Gallery of Art\, Washington D.C.

SUMMARY:STEMming from Punk Rock (Works in Progress Seminar)
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Jeffrey H. Weisburg\, Ph.D.\, Specialist Professor\, Department of Biology \nPunk rock usually conjures images of teenagers or young adults (you know\, the dregs of society) with spiked\, colorful hair\, tattoos\, piercing\, wearing ripped jeans\, Doc Martin combat boots\, dancing violently to bass-pounding music in a hot and sweaty\, small music venue. Ph.D. in the sciences\, engineers\, and pre-med students are the furthest thing that comes to mind. Three lead singers of landmark punk bands have Ph.D.s in biology; Milo Aukerman of the Descendents (Biology)\, Greg Graffin of Bad Religion (Zoology)\, and Dexter Holland of the Offsprings (Molecular Biology). Several other punk rock artists also have graduate degrees in biology and engineering. This leads to the scientific question that needs to be examined and answered: What is the connection between punk rock and science? Is there something in the water? Is it genetics? Is it a chemical reaction that occurs when two people in the circle pit collide? All possibilities for this question will be investigated.

SUMMARY:Producing the Beatles
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: Thursdays – March 6 & 13 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nBased on his acclaimed podcast\, Producing the Beatles\, Jason Kruppa explores the music of the Fab Four from the perspective of the one person whose point of view has never been properly and thoroughly examined: their producer\, George Martin. Using innovative techniques to break down their recordings\, we’ll discover how the Beatles went from learning their way around the studio to becoming masters of the art of recording\, with their producer working side by side with them each step of the way. And finally\, with re-recordings and detailed recreations of Martin’s orchestral scores that allow us to hear individual instrument parts\,\, we’ll learn how his arrangements enhanced and shaped the Beatles’ music. \nZoom Link will be provided upon registration.

SUMMARY:What Does it Mean to Teach Right Now - Social Justice Academy Professional Development Series
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of the current climate regarding equity in education\, the Social Justice Academy will host Cornelius Minor\, a well renowned Brooklyn-eased educator.\n\n\nSpring Distinguished Speaker\n \n\n \n\n“My job as a teacher is not to merely teach the curriculum or even to just teach the students; it is to seek to understand my kids as completely as possible so that I can purposefully bend and remix curriculum to meet them.”\n\n \n\nCornelius Minor is a Brooklyn-based educator and part-time Pokemon trainer. He works with teachers\, school leaders\, and leaders of community-based organizations to support equitable literacy reform in cities (and sometimes villages) across the globe. His latest book\, “We Got This”\, explores how the work of creating more equitable school spaces is embedded in our everyday choices—specifically in the choice to really listen to kids.\n\n \n\nMinor has been featured in Education Week\, Brooklyn Magazine\, and Teaching Tolerance magazine. He has partnered with the New York City Department of Education\, the International Literacy Association\, Scholastic\, and Lesley University’s Center for Reading Recovery & Literacy Collaborative. Minor was featured in the documentary “Out of Print”\, which made its way around the film festival circuit\, and he has been a featured speaker at conferences all over the world. He is a dedicated hip-hop fan\, and on some evenings\, you can find him online saving the universe with his PlayStation or on paper saving the realm in Dungeons & Dragons.\n\n \n\nMost recently\, along with his partner and wife\, Kass Minor\, he has established The Minor Collective\, a community-based movement designed to foster sustainable change in schools. Whether working with educators and kids in Los Angeles\, Seattle\, or New York City\, Minor uses his love for technology\, literature\, and social media to bring communities together. As a teacher\, Minor draws not only on his years teaching middle school in the Bronx and Brooklyn\, but also on time spent skateboarding\, shooting hoops\, and working with young people.\n\n \n\nThese days\, Minor is learning how to bake from his two young children\, searching for an elusive pair of Jordan IVs\, and is ritually re-reading all of the 1990s era comic books that he c
