DESCRIPTION: The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music and Hard Rock International are proud to announce The Native American Music Experience\, a unique\, free concert celebrating the rich history and enduring legacy of Indigenous music in America. \nThe concert will take place at Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre on Wednesday\, June 3 at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the Springsteen Center’s week-long series of grand opening activities. \nHard Rock International\, which is owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida\, is also supporting the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music through financial contributions\, memorabilia donations from its globally recognized collection of more than 89\,000 authentic music artifacts\, and partnership in the entertainment space. \n“Indigenous music is foundational to the story of American music\,” said Robert Santelli\, founding executive director of the Springsteen Center. “This concert kicks off our relationship with Hard Rock International and reflects our mission to explore the full breadth of American music. DESCRIPTION:On May 30\, the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live\ntransmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera\, a “confident\, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.

DESCRIPTION:The legendary cofounder of The Byrds gives a solo performance of a lifetime. As an indisputable industry icon\, he delivers the gift of an evening that is as intimate as it is spellbinding. \nBy 1964\, Roger McGuinn was already an experienced figure in both the New York and Los Angeles music scenes when he co-founded the band that would become the Byrds\, alongside Gene Clark and David Crosby. Before forming the Byrds\, McGuinn had toured and performed as a guitarist and banjo player with the Limeliters\, the Chad Mitchell Trio\, and Bobby Darin. SUMMARY:'60s Girl Groups\, Part II
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: April 23\, 28\, & 30\, 2026 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nThe early 1960s began the girl group renaissance\, with prominent Brill Building songwriters and emerging producers such as Phil Spector crafting hits. Motown would further set the template\, with Martha and the Vandellas\, the Velvettes\, and the Marvelettes inspiring even British Invasion groups.  Perhaps no one defined the girl group aesthetic like the Supremes\, one of the most successful (and influential) acts of the 1960s. \n\n\nAs the next decade loomed\, the girl group genre was not as prominent on the charts.  Yet the Honey Cone\, the Emotions\, the Three Degrees\, and LaBelle added a thoroughly modern spin on the girl group sound\, adding elements of disco and funk.  The Pointer Sisters would achieve even greater success in the late 1970s and 1980s\, with the 1990s bringing a new wave of groups such as En Vogue\, the Spice Girls\, and SWV.  The trend continues today with an international flair\, as the hugely popular K-Pop genre has redrawn the blueprint with artists such as Blackpink and Twice. Part two travels through these eras\, exploring why the girl group genre continues to thrive. Multimedia presentations and discussions will help define how girl groups changed music and pop culture. \nZoom Link will be provided upon registration.
