DESCRIPTION:Filmed at the National Opera House of Ireland\, A Virtually Celtic Christmas features the Irish Concert Orchestra\, two choirs\, guests singers and musicians from all over Ireland and the ethereal voice of Irish tenor\, Michael Londra. Michael is best known as the lead voice of Riverdance on Broadway and for his Emmy® nominated show Beyond Celtic\, on PBS. The show features an array of Christmas favorites from ancient Gaelic hymns to Broadway classics. Songs include In the Bleak Midwinter\, The Wexford Carol\, Winter\, Fire and Snow\, and a host of songs to warm you on a winter’s evening. The concert’s musical director\, renowned Irish composer Liam Bates composed the choral arrangements for the evening. Guest artists include New York Times best selling author of Artemis Fowl\, Eoin Colfer. Liam and Eoin’s songs from their Christmas musical NOËL feature in the concert along with an appearance by West End star and Northern Ireland native Zoe Rainey (Wicked\, Hairspray). \n \n  \nAbout Michael Londra\nMichael Londra is originally from Wexford\, home of the National Opera House and was the first local to perform at the beautiful space when it opened in 2009. Over the past year he has spent a lot of time in his homeland filming a new tv series for public television\, Ireland with Michael\, a travel and music show featuring some of Ireland’s biggest stars. The show will air on PBS in the spring of 2021. Audiences of Virtually Celtic Christmas will get a special glimpse of the show during the concert. You’ll learn about his love for his home county\, to traditional music and his special connection to JFK and the Kennedy family.

Adelphi has partnered with venues across the country to help promote the series and the artists. \nJarrod Spector is best known for his Tony Nominated performance in Beautiful: the Carole King Musical in the role of ‘Barry Mann’. He played ‘Frankie Valli’ for a record 1500 performances in Broadway’s Jersey Boys and was last seen as the iconic ‘Sonny Bono’ in Broadway’s The Cher Show. Kelli Barrett originated the role of ‘Lara Guishar’ in Broadway’s Doctor Zhivago and has also played leading roles in Broadway’s Wicked\, Baby It’s You! and The Royal Family. She was recently lauded for her portrayal as ‘Liza Minnelli’ in the award-winning FX show Fosse/Verdon. \nHitched in 2014\, Barrett & Spector present Funny How It Happens\, an intimate look at the uncanny parallels and fortuitous make-it-or-break-it moments throughout their careers and friendship that eventually brought them together. DESCRIPTION:In an endless sea of rock and pop formats\, The Moody Blues distinguished themselves through five decades as that shimmering jewel vindicating rock music as a substantial artistic contribution to Western culture.  Since the 60’s\, as a part of the historic original British invasion of Supergroups\, The Moody Blues lit up the hearts and minds of millions of rock fans with inspiring anthems like “Nights in White Satin\,” “Tuesday Afternoon” and “I’m Just A Singer (In A Rock and Roll Band)\,” which express universal themes of love\, compassion and peace.  They have sold in excess of 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded an astonishing 14 platinum and gold discs. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in 2018 and ceased touring at that time. \nGordon Marshall\, drummer with The Moody Blues for over 25 years\, knew that there was a hunger in the market for Moody Blues music.  To fill the void\, he put together an amazing group of musicians and formed the band GO NOW!\, a tribute to the music of The Moody Blues. DESCRIPTION:In this interactive\, multimedia talk\, Kenneth Womack traces the story behind John Lennon’s remarkable 1980 comeback album with wife Yoko Ono. In this virtual event\, Womack explores the powerful\, life-affirming story of the former Beatle’s renaissance after five years of self-imposed retirement. Lennon’s final pivotal year would climax in several moments of creative triumph as he rediscovered his artistic self in dramatic fashion. Womack’s presentation is drawn from his forthcoming book John Lennon 1980: The Last Days in the Life.  \nKenneth Womack is one of the world’s foremost writers and thinkers about the Beatles. In addition to such titles as Long and Winding Roads: The Evolving Artistry of the Beatles (2007) and The Beatles Encyclopedia: Everything Fab Four (2014)\, he is the author of a two-volume biography of the life and work of Beatles producer George Martin\, including Maximum Volume (2017) and Sound Pictures (2018). SUMMARY:ArtNOW Art+Feminism Wikipedia-Edit-a-thon
DESCRIPTION:Wikipedia is a worldwide collaborative encyclopedia project made up of a globalized network of volunteers who give their time to edit the site. Within this globalized network\, there still lacks a diversity of voices. “In a 2011 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female; more recent research puts that number at 16% globally and 23% in the United States.”  (Mandiberg\, M.\, Prajapati\, S.\, & Schrock\, R.\, 2020). Who contributes to a database matters. Especially when in 2015\, that database was “the 7th most visited website in the world” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). A 2011 study from the Pew Research Center\, shows that “the more educated someone is\, the more likely he or she is to consult Wikipedia. Almost 70 percent of Americans with college degrees read Wikipedia” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). If college-educated people and students are using Wikipedia as a main source of information\, there is an argument for students learning how to edit and contribute to the online encyclopedia that they use. \nIt is increasingly important for cis and trans women\, gender-non-conforming people\, people of color\, and Indigenous communities to be written back into history. When information systems like Wikipedia systematically exclude aspects of the human experience\, our understanding of the world is incomplete. Go Tell It On The Mountain\, first published in 1953\, is James Baldwin’s first major work\, a novel that has established itself as an American classic. With lyrical precision\, psychological directness\, resonating symbolic power\, and a rage that is at once unrelenting and compassionate\, Baldwin chronicles a fourteen-year-old boy’s discovery of the terms of his identity as the stepson of the minister of a storefront Pentecostal church in Harlem one Saturday in March of 1935.
