DESCRIPTION:Filmed at the National Opera House of Ireland\, A Virtually Celtic Christmas features the Irish Concert Orchestra\, two choirs\, guests singers and musicians from all over Ireland and the ethereal voice of Irish tenor\, Michael Londra. Michael is best known as the lead voice of Riverdance on Broadway and for his Emmy® nominated show Beyond Celtic\, on PBS. The show features an array of Christmas favorites from ancient Gaelic hymns to Broadway classics. Songs include In the Bleak Midwinter\, The Wexford Carol\, Winter\, Fire and Snow\, and a host of songs to warm you on a winter’s evening. The concert’s musical director\, renowned Irish composer Liam Bates composed the choral arrangements for the evening. Guest artists include New York Times best selling author of Artemis Fowl\, Eoin Colfer. Liam and Eoin’s songs from their Christmas musical NOËL feature in the concert along with an appearance by West End star and Northern Ireland native Zoe Rainey (Wicked\, Hairspray). \n \n  \nAbout Michael Londra\nMichael Londra is originally from Wexford\, home of the National Opera House and was the first local to perform at the beautiful space when it opened in 2009. Over the past year he has spent a lot of time in his homeland filming a new tv series for public television\, Ireland with Michael\, a travel and music show featuring some of Ireland’s biggest stars. He played ‘Frankie Valli’ for a record 1500 performances in Broadway’s Jersey Boys and was last seen as the iconic ‘Sonny Bono’ in Broadway’s The Cher Show. Kelli Barrett originated the role of ‘Lara Guishar’ in Broadway’s Doctor Zhivago and has also played leading roles in Broadway’s Wicked\, Baby It’s You! and The Royal Family. DESCRIPTION:Wikipedia is a worldwide collaborative encyclopedia project made up of a globalized network of volunteers who give their time to edit the site. Within this globalized network\, there still lacks a diversity of voices. “In a 2011 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female; more recent research puts that number at 16% globally and 23% in the United States.”  (Mandiberg\, M.\, Prajapati\, S.\, & Schrock\, R.\, 2020). Who contributes to a database matters. Especially when in 2015\, that database was “the 7th most visited website in the world” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). A 2011 study from the Pew Research Center\, shows that “the more educated someone is\, the more likely he or she is to consult Wikipedia. Almost 70 percent of Americans with college degrees read Wikipedia” (Paling\, E.\, 2015). If college-educated people and students are using Wikipedia as a main source of information\, there is an argument for students learning how to edit and contribute to the online encyclopedia that they use. \nIt is increasingly important for cis and trans women\, gender-non-conforming people\, people of color\, and Indigenous communities to be written back into history. When information systems like Wikipedia systematically exclude aspects of the human experience\, our understanding of the world is incomplete. DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: Thursdays – Sept. 10\, Sept. 17 & Sept. 24 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nThis three-session virtual course provides attendees with an introduction to basic modes for telling the stories of their lives. Working in a supportive workshop setting\, students will enjoy engaging\, wide-ranging discussion about the joys and challenges of bringing their memories to life. Instructor: Mike Farragher\, Monmouth University alumnus and author of numerous works of fiction and memoir. \nWhether you have dreams of being a bestselling author or you’re committed to creating your life story as an heirloom for future generations of your family\, memoir writing can be a rewarding endeavor to help make sense of your life journey. \nIf you’ve ever said aloud\, “I should write a book someday\,” but didn’t know where to begin\, this course will get you on the road to fulfilling that creative dream. \nThis course will explore how to get started\, tools to overcome lack of confidence and overwhelm\, provide creative writing prompts\, and instill a disciplined process essential for success that has produced proven results for unknown and known authors alike. \nZoom Link will be provided upon registration.
