DESCRIPTION:Light is a living element\, fixed in a moment of time\, captured by the lens of a machine or by the hand of man. This light shifts\, changes and instantaneously alters landscapes. It illuminates color and contrast\, in the key absence of artificial light. Lightscapes is the light in all our scapes\, originating from the sun or moon\, our natural resource. Lightscapes is the wonder of how light wraps itself around nature in a moment of stillness. \nAs you explore Lightscapes\, you will be surrounded by examples of how this light pulls you to various environments – evoking emotions\, some subtle and some turbulent. The exhibition does not seek to duplicate nature\, but instead allows the expressive and intimate use of color and light to dance within the work. \nLeveraging her strong classical European education\, Gina Torello’s work is diverse in both media and style. Her sense of expression demonstrates a mastery of color and is captured in her freedom to recreate Lightscapes that speak to the viewer from her soul. \nCome explore Lightscapes for yourself. In her retrospective exhibit\, Gina Torello demonstrates how light intertwines the subject matter of her oils\, pastels\, printmaking\, photography and sculpture in the Ice House Gallery. DESCRIPTION:Aurora Robson is a multi-media artist known predominantly for her work intercepting the waste stream. Her practice is about subjugating negativity and shifting trajectories. Her work formally references recurring nightmares that she had as a child. She was born in Toronto in 1972 and grew up in Maui\, HI. After over 2 decades living and working in NYC she recently moved to the Hudson Valley. Robson holds a double major (B.A.) in visual arts and art history from Columbia University.

SUMMARY:New Stories for the Anthropocene: Artist Talk with Elizabeth Demaray
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Demaray is an artist who focuses on the interface between the built and the natural environment. In this vein\, she builds listening stations for birds that play human music\, cultures lichen on the sides of skyscrapers in New York City\, and designs alternative forms of housing for land hermit crabs. These artworks often involve the concept of a biotope\, which is a small environment where human and non-human populations overlap. \nWhile in residence at Monmouth University\, Demaray will present these projects and will lead a workshop on non-anthropocentric design. She will also be pairing with the campus to create a community-based project that embraces the idea of “trans-species giving.” According to Demaray\, the concept of trans-species giving asserts that the commonalities between life forms are such that we may actually be able to give other organisms a “hand up\,” notwithstanding our own cultural or species-specific assumptions about the natural world. \nDemaray is the recipient of the National Studio Award from the New York Museum of Modern Art/P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center and the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Sculpture\, and was the featured artist at the 2014 Association of Environmental Science Studies symposium\, Welcome to the Anthropocene. She lives and works in Brooklyn\, New York\, and is an associate professor of fine arts and head of the sculpture concentration at Rutgers University\, Camden. On the Rutgers\, New Brunswick\, campus\, she is a work group advisor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and an advisor at The Art and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Rutgers University\, in the Department of Computer Science\, which is dedicated to supporting artistic practice in the fields of computer vision and machine learning. \nDemaray’s work can be seen at: https://elizabethdemaray.org

DESCRIPTION:The play is set in the backyard of two adjoining houses in the working class neighborhood of South Philadelphia. They are about to celebrate the 21st birthday of Francis Geminiani\, a Harvard student\, when two classmate friends from Harvard and Yale\, Judith and Randy\, show up unexpectedly. Since there isn’t a spare bedroom in either house they pitch a tent in the backyard. Francis’ classmates\, the wealthy Judith seeks romance with Francis not realizing that her brother Randy is the object of Francis’ unexpressed affection. Each of the characters in the play are dysfunctional to some degree and their celebration of Francis’ birthday brings out the best of comedy and drama. The birthday party is a series of comic incidents that provide laughter and serious realizations that lead up to the final joyous ending. The crazy fast moving celebration leaves each character a bit wiser and happier having celebrated Francis’ 21st birthday.

DESCRIPTION:“The Smithereens roared into the breach. They are one of those rare bands who produce great-sounding recordings… and sound even greater live.” -Kevin Coughlon \nSpecial guest vocalist Marshall Crenshaw will be joining Jim Babjak\, Dennis Diken and Mike Mesaros of The Smithereens. \nKnown for their catchy 1960s-influenced power pop that inspired countless alternative rockers\, The Smithereens gained popularity with “11” the album that spawned college campus favorites “A Girl Like You”\, “Blood and Roses” & “Blue Period”. In April of 2011 Smithereens released “2011” their first album of new material in 12 years. Produced by Don Dixon (who helmed “Especially For You”\, the group’s breakout debut)\, the seminal New Jersey rockers picked up right where they left off: with irresistibly catchy hooks and rapturously fuzzed-out guitars. Now they’re back on the road with their catalog of classic hits as well as new favorites. Following the sad passing of lead vocalist Pat DiNizio in 2017\, original members Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals)\, Dennis Diken (drums & percussion) and Mike Mesaros on bass guitar carry on the Smithereens legacy. \nOver the course of a recording career that’s spanned three decades\, 13 albums and hundreds of songs\, Marshall Crenshaw’s musical output has maintained a consistently high level of artistry\, craftsmanship and passion\, endearing him to a broad and loyal fan base. After getting an early break playing John Lennon in a touring company of the Broadway musical Beatlemania\, Crenshaw began his recording career with the now-legendary indie single “Something’s Gonna Happen.” The Eighties saw Marshall hit the charts again with “Someday\, Someway\,” “Cynical Girl\,” “Whenever You’re On My Mind\,” “Maryanne\,” “You’re My Favorite Waste of Time” and more compositions covered by artists including Ronnie Spector\, Gin Blossoms and Bette Midler.
