DESCRIPTION:As a universal language\, the arts have always been an effective tool for addressing social issues. Artivism or “activist art” is a form of social protest that explores cultural and political concerns. However\, it is much more than just an innovative tactic\, Artivism involves an entire practice that attempts to inspire positive change in society. DESCRIPTION:Chris Clavio is an Electronic Artist and Entrepreneur living and working in Santa Fe\, NM. His work explores the sublime and perception using light\, sound\, and interactive environments. Currently he is the Director of IT and Electrical Infrastructure Systems for the artist collective Meow Wolf. \nClavio has shown work across the United States\, most recently in Pittsburgh\, PA\, with Energy Flow\, a project in collaboration with Andrea Polli that highlights the Rachel Carson bridge with wind-turbine powered LEDs. DESCRIPTION:Marlon James was born in Jamaica in 1970. His recent novel A Brief History of Seven Killings won the 2015 Man Booker Prize. It was also a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and won the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean\nLiterature for fiction\, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for fiction\, and the Minnesota Book Award. It was also a New York Times Notable Book. James is also the author of The Book of Night Women\, which won the 2010 Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the Minnesota Book Award\, and was a finalist for the 2010 National Book Critics Circle Award in fiction and an NAACP Image Award. His first novel\, John Crow’s Devil\, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for first fiction and the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize\, and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice. James lives in Minneapolis.

As the leader of the influential 60s group\, The Byrds\, he was on the leading edge\, combining the rock beat of the Beatles with the folk sensibilities of Bob Dylan\, to create the genre known as “folk-rock.” Roger’s solo career began in 1973 and has yielded 10 albums\, a Grammy nomination\, and extensive touring and performing for enthralled audiences ever since.

DESCRIPTION:Massenet’s enchanting opera Cendrillon\, based on Cinderella\, premieres at the Met conducted by Bertrand de Billy and directed by Laurent Pelly\, whose Met credits include staging Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment and Massenet’s Manon. Joyce DiDonato adds another role to her Met repertory as the title character\, a role she has sung to acclaim at the Grand Teatre del Liceu\, Santa Fe Opera\, and Royal Opera\, Covent Garden. The cast also stars Alice Coote as Prince Charmant\, Stephanie Blythe as the evil stepmother Madame de la Haltière\, Kathleen Kim as the Fée\, and Laurent Naouri as Pandolfe. Cendrillon is produced in association with the Royal Opera House\, Covent Garden\, London; Gran Teatre del Liceu\, Barcelona; Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie\, Brussels; and Opéra de Lille.
