SUMMARY:Songwriting: Unlocking Your Creativity
DESCRIPTION:Class Schedule: Thursdays – April 1\, 8 and 15 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM \nThis three session virtual course\, taught by Jay Sweet\, provides participants with techniques to help give directions and creative elements that will help unlock the potential of active and aspiring songwriters. The workshop will also provide a supportive outlet for those songwriters looking to share their works for evaluation or for those looking to learn from others’ processes. \n Instructor: Jay Sweet is a Professor of Music who has produced several pieces for television and radio. He is also the proud owner and director of Sweet Music Academy\, where he has helped to train hundreds of musicians.Whether you are a hobbyist or someone looking to pursue a career in songwriting\, this course will help you find new avenues and directions to enhance your craft. For those who wish to do so\, there will also be opportunities for students to share their songs in a workshop setting. \nThroughout the course\, Sweet will provide examples and analysis of songs\, techniques\, and creative concepts that will be presented. Over the three weeks\, we will discuss the process of developing and recording a song and the many different avenues that can be taken to make your music polished and presentable. \nZoom link will be provided upon registration.

SUMMARY:WOMAN AT WAR  - VIRTUAL PANEL DISCUSSION
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a World Cinema Series zoom discussion illuminating the theme “A Delicate Balance: Global Communities and the Natural World” by analyzing the message and impact the 2018 film\, Woman at War. \nSet in Iceland the film is a drama\, with moments of whimsical comedy\, about Halla\, a 50-year old environmental activist determined to halt the construction of a new aluminum smelter near Reykjavik by destroying power lines and thwarting negotiations between the government of Iceland and a corporation and community eager to see the contracts awarded. Yet\, it is her personal\, ethical crisis that brings this drama\, based on actual events\, to a stirring conclusion. \nThe discussion of the film will be led by Catherine Duckett\, Associate Dean in the School of Science; Nancy Mezey\, Dean of the Honors School and Maiya Furgason\, professor in the Department of Management and Leadership.  \nThe film is available for streaming on a number of platforms including Vudu\, Amazon Prime Video\, YouTube\, Google Play Movies and TV\, or iTunes (for rent or purchase). \nWhen you register you will be provided the meeting link to join the conversation. \nFree and open to the public\, but registration is required.
