SUMMARY:ART+AUTISM
DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with Autism Speaks New Jersey\, this juried exhibition opening at the beginning of Autism Awareness Month will showcase the talents and abilities of artists living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and initiate a conversation about the unique power of art in the autism community. Each piece of work will be for sale and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks.   \nOpening Reception: April 2\, 5-7 PM\nThe opening reception will be presented in conjunction with the Bravo Amici benefit concert for Autism Speaks on April 2 at 8 PM.

DESCRIPTION:Each April 2nd\, Autism Speaks celebrates the start of its signature campaign\, Light It Up Blue\, along with the international autism community in recognition of UN sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day and April\, World Autism Month . Thousands of iconic landmarks and buildings join the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities around the world to “light blue” in support of people living with autism. Monmouth University will be joining the campaign lighting dramatically lighting up the Monmouth Library and Wilson Hall for the entire month of April.

Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies \n\nTuesday\, April 18\, 2017 \nTurning Stumbling Blocks into Stepping Stones\nYvonne Thornton M.D. ‘69\nDouble Board-Certified Specialist in Obstetrics\, Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine \nScience Building Multipurpose Room \n6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. \nAbout This Lecture \nFrom the footlights of the Apollo Theatre where she performed with her family band known as “The Thornton Sisters” to the operating theater of an Ivy League medical school\, Dr. Yvonne Thornton relied on her father’s life lessons\, which taught her to be strong and rise above adversity. She has managed more than 12\,000 deliveries and has personally delivered more than 5\,000 babies in her career. As a Monmouth University alumna and former University Trustee\, Dr. Thornton will serve as a kindling force that will ignite a fire within the audience to go forward and achieve their dreams. SUMMARY:Karaoke  For A Cause
DESCRIPTION:Join the sisters of Alpha Xi Delta for Karaoke for a Cause\, a talent competition where individuals will sing karaoke songs or original songs of their own to raise funds in support of Autism Speaks. Alpha Xi Delta formed a philanthropic partnership with Autism Speaks in 2009\, and since has proudly raised more than $5\,000\,000  collectively through their national college chapters and alumnae associations for the cause.
