DESCRIPTION:Exhibition extended through August 18 \nPollak Gallery and outdoor locations on campus\nDocumentary Screening: May 18\, 10 AM at Wilson Hall \nMichael Malpass’ (1946-1991) artistic legacy consists of sculpture\, drawings \, collage\, paintings\, and assemblages. He is best known for his spheres\, which revitalize found industrial objects using bandsaw and traditional blacksmithing techniques. He described his sculpture\, overall\, as “a blend of artistry\, collage\, craftsmanship and movement\,” terms that could be applied to his work in other media\, as well. His vast\, stimulating and powerful body of work has established him as one of the most respected sculptors of the 20th century. \nThe opening reception will include a premiere screening of a new documentary “Michael Malpass – A Great Circle” created by Monmouth University Communication students under the direction of Erin Fleming\,\ndirector of Production Services at 7:30 pm in Pollak Theatre.

SUMMARY:J. Seward Johnson Sculptures
DESCRIPTION:Following an early career as a painter\, Seward Johnson turned his talents to the medium of sculpture. Since then\, more than 450 of Johnson’s life-size cast bronze figures have been featured in private collections and museums in the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Asia\, as well as prominent places in the public realm such as Rockefeller Center\, Pacific Place\, Hong Kong\, Les Halles in Paris\, and Via Condotti in Rome. Seward Johnson is most widely known for his sculptures depicting people engaged in every day activities. Johnson’s desire to highlight the mundane in his Celebrating the Familiar sculpture series has brought a unique voice to the world of art in public spaces. \nJohnson is often recognized for his most dramatic work — and also his largest — the 70’ aluminum giant entitled The Awakening. This sculpture was selected for the International Sculpture Conference & Exhibition and is currently sited along the Potomac River at National Harbor in Washington\, DC. This work was profiled in LIFE magazine\, Time Magazine and has become a “must see” destination in the nation’s capitol. In recent years\, Seward Johnson’s monumental scale sculptures have captured the attention of the international media and a global audience. Among these are the 26 foot tall Forever Marilyn with her skirt blowing upwards defying the stainless steel and aluminum materials. DESCRIPTION:ALL REMAINING PERFORMANCES ARE SOLD OUT. \n  July 6-9 and July 13-16 at 8 PM with Friday matinees at 2 PM on July 8 and 15For the box office call 732.263.6889 Before Loretta and before Dolly\, there was Patsy – Patsy Cline\, whose hits like “Crazy” and “Sweet Dreams” heralded the cross-over of country music and pop. This summer\, Shadow Lawn Stage\, the professional theatre in residence at Monmouth University\, will present Ted Swindley’s ode to her: Always\, Patsy Cline.  \nThe show tells Patsy’s story through the eyes and words of Louise Seger\, a Texas housewife who starts out as a Patsy fan\, becomes a pen pal\, and then blossoms into an incredible friendship.  \nStarring as Patsy is Reagan Richards\,\na renowned singer in her own right\, who has sung with music greats such as Les\nPaul\, Darlene Love\, Ben E. King\, Joan Jett\, David Gray\, Cheap Trick & many\nothers. She is part of Williams Honor\, the Jersey Shore’s first modern country\nduo\, with multi-instrumentalist Gordon Brown. She begins work as Patsy in\nbetween her national radio tour\, where she supporting their single\, “Send\nIt To Me\,” with performances all over the country celebrating the recent\nrelease of their self-titled CD. Under the music direction of George Wurzbach –\nformerly of the folk group Modern Man and a member of the Monmouth faculty –\nMs. Richards will sing many of the Patsy Cline standards\, including “I Fall To\nPieces”\, “Walking After Midnight” and 27 other tunes. \nUnder the direction of Maurice J. Moran\, the role of Louise will be played by Katrina Ferguson\, returning to Shadow Lawn after acclaimed performances in The Au Pair Man and Molly Sweeney. Ms. Ferguson recently won the Best Actress award at the Dorset Theatre Festival for her role of Eleanor of Aquitaine in Lion In Winter. Louise tells her story by conjuring memories of where and when she fell in love with Cline’s music: listening to the radio in her kitchen\, meeting her at a local country bar\, and seeing her live on stage with a band of country musicians.
