SUMMARY:James Deane: A Hidden Treasure
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception/ Gallery Talk: Wed. Oct 7 5:30-7:30 pm\nFree and open to the public \nThis exhibit will feature recently discovered artwork by artistic visionary James Deane a life-long resident of Long Branch (1906 – 2001.) Prolific in many mediums\, Deane created works of art with watercolors\, pen and ink\, pencil and clay. He was supported by his only sibling\, his sister Laura\, which allowed him the freedom to focus exclusively on his artwork for many years. The works featured in this exhibit include magnificent botanical studies\, futuristic landscape paintings and whimsical pottery\, most of which has been unseen since the 1930’s.

DESCRIPTION:Lecture: Thursday\, September 24 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.\, Wilson Hall Auditorium\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, September 24 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.\nFree and open to the Public \nAaron Wexler’s work investigates shapes in nature as they relate to abstraction in painting. He collects distinctly different representations of abstraction of nature and architectural networks and utilizing prints\, books\, photographs and hand painted paper\, makes drawings and collages from these source materials. Wexler received his M.F.A from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 1999. His work has been included in various solo and group shows in New York and London including the Morgan Lehman Gallery\, Josee Bienvenu Gallery\, The National Academy Museum\, and Katonah Museum of Art\, among others.

SUMMARY:Bruce Springsteen: A Photographic Journey
DESCRIPTION:Rechnitz Hall’s DiMattio Gallery\, 1st Floor\nOpening Reception: Sun September 27\, 1-4pm\nThe opening reception  will include a Q&A with the photographers moderated by Grammy Museum executive director Bob Santelli at 2:30 PM. \nFree and open to the public \nBruce Springsteen: A Photographic Journey\, a traveling photography exhibition curated by the GRAMMY Museum Los Angeles\, features 45 iconic images of Bruce Springsteen. The exhibit serves to document a great American music legend\, and will feature photos taken by noted Springsteen photographers Danny Clinch\, Ed Gallucci\, Eric Meola\, Pamela Springsteen and Frank Stefanko. \n“Our goal with this exhibition is to define the career of Bruce Springsteen in an entirely new light\, as captured by these five incredible photographers\,” said GRAMMY Museum executive director Bob Santelli. “Each of these photographers was able to artfully document Bruce’s world\, at different stages in his career. We are honored to partner with each of them in order to help tell the story of one of the most important figures in American music.” \nBruce Springsteen’s recording career spans more than forty years\, beginning with 1973’s Columbia Records release Greetings from Asbury Park\, NJ. He has released 18 studio albums\, garnered 20 GRAMMY Awards\, won an Oscar\, has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\, was a 2009 recipient of Kennedy Center Honors and was named 2013 MusiCares Person of the Year by The Recording Academy. Springsteen’s newest album High Hopes (Columbia) was released on January 14\, 2014. \nWhile the majority of the exhibit focuses on Springsteen off-stage\, four additional live performance photographs\, shot by Barry Schneier\, will be showcased. These photos were shot during the now famous Springsteen concert at Harvard Square Theater where famed Rolling Stone music journalist Jon Landau claimed\, “I have seen the future of rock and roll\, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” \nAdditionally\, the exhibit will feature video interviews with each of the photographers\, produced by the GRAMMY Museum.

DESCRIPTION:The Leon Hess Business School will be launching an in-house mentoring program called SEEMA (Student Enrichment and Engagement through Mentoring Activities)with an informal meeting for mentors and mentees on Friday\, September 25\, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Magill Commons Club Dining Room. \nFormal mentoring activities will start in October. \nSEEMA\, an exclusive mentoring program within the Leon Hess Business School\, was developed for our students to apply career development skills beyond the classroom. Through SEEMA\, students will have the opportunity to engage in resume development\, interviewing processes and other activities designed to enhance their preparedness in the professional job market. SUMMARY:On Screen In Person: Foreign Puzzle
DESCRIPTION:Foreign Puzzle follows dancer and choreographer Sharon Marroquin as she endures intensive breast cancer treatments and explores her fear of death through the creation of a 90 minute dance titled\, “The Materiality of Impermanence.” The dance becomes Sharon’s only outlet\, allowing her to escape the daily pressures of the disease and life as a single working parent\, and shapes her perceptions about life as she fights to heal her body and mind. \nChithra Jeyaram is an award winning documentary filmmaker and educator based in Washington D.C. She is the technical instructor at the Institute for Documentary Filmmaking at George Washington University and is a master instructor at Arlington Independent Media where she teaches Documentary Production and Video Editing Courses. Her short film Mijo aired on KLRU TV\, PBS online film festival and in more than 50 film festivals around the world. Foreign Puzzle is her debut feature documentary and she is in pre-production for an interactive documentary project titled 1001 Breast Cancer Nights. She is the recipient of the 2014 Creative Arts Fellowship and BAVC National Mediamaker Fellowship for 1001 Breast Cancer Nights; 2013 Docs in Progress Fellowship for Foreign Puzzle; 2012 Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Your Worldview Documentary grant for Mijo and Dina Sherzer Award for Social Awareness for her documentary Refugee Musings. There will be a Q&A with director Chithra Jeyaram following the screening.
