{"id":1213,"date":"2024-01-10T08:40:31","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T13:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/disability-services\/?page_id=1213"},"modified":"2024-02-01T10:00:52","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T15:00:52","slug":"requesting-cart-services","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/disability-services\/requesting-cart-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Requesting CART Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Intent: <\/strong>To provide services to students whose documented disability makes it necessary to receive CART Services\/Real-Time Captioning as accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accountability: <\/strong>The Department of Disability Services, the ADA\/504 Coordinator and students who have selected to self-identify as a person with disability requesting disability related accommodations and support services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Applicability:<\/strong> Students enrolled full or part time at Monmouth University and registered with DDS who have been approved for CART services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Definition:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Business Day:<\/strong> is defined as Monday\u2013Friday, 8:45 a.m.\u20135 p.m.; weekend and holiday dates are not included.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Procedure:<\/strong>  Students requesting CART for the first time must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" style=\"list-style-type:1\">\n<li>Register with the Department of Disability Services (DDS) and be approved for CART services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide DDS with a copy of their class schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with the DDS Disability Specialist either virtually or in person before CART Services can be processed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following applies to all CART Services&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students&#8217; responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide DDS with a copy of your class schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inform DDS immediately via an email to <a href=\"mailto:dds@monmouth.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dds@monmouth.edu<\/a> if you experience a disruption of service. We will do our best to address and resolve any concerns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CART service providers are not responsible for students\u2019 absence nor their academic responsibilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must be present in class to receive the CART services.\n<ol class=\"lower-alpha wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notify DDS if:\n<ol class=\"lower-roman wp-block-list\">\n<li>You plan to be absent or miss a class or appointment. (72 hours in advance or as soon as possible).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your class\/appointment is canceled. (as soon as possible)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There will be a video shown in class. (10 business days in advance)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be making a presentation.&nbsp;(10 business days in advance)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No Show\/Absence<\/strong>: If CART services have been requested, and you know that you will be unable to attend class, you must provide DDS with at least 72 hours advanced notice.&nbsp; In some situations, students may not be able to provide 72 hours\u2019 notice, but they must notify DDS immediately.&nbsp; Failure to provide any advanced notice will be considered a \u201cNo-Show\u201d. To give advance notice, a student must email the DDS Office at <a href=\"mailto:dds@monmouth.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dds@monmouth.edu<\/a> .<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>First &#8220;No-Show&#8221;: <\/strong>A letter or email will be sent to remind the student of the policy and appropriate procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Second &#8220;No-Show&#8221;: <\/strong>Services will automatically be temporarily suspended, and a letter or email will be sent to the student informing you of the policy and the appropriate procedure. Services will remain suspended until the student makes an appointment and meets with the Director of DDS to discuss reinstating services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For each subsequent &#8220;No-Show&#8221;:<\/strong> Services will automatically be suspended, and a letter or email will be sent to the student informing the student of the policy and the appropriate procedures. The services will remain suspended until the student makes an appointment and meets with the Director of DDS.&nbsp; At that point, The Director will determine if\/when services will be reinstated.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li>To request additional CART services for meetings with an instructor, support services or any event on campus, please email <a href=\"mailto:dds@monmouth.edu\">dds@monmouth.edu<\/a> at least five business days in advance of the needed date.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please include:\n<ol class=\"lower-alpha wp-block-list\">\n<li>Date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Names of participants <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Department of Disability Services is responsible for:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Facilitating arrangements for CART services for all classes, meeting and\/or events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attempting to accommodate late requests; however, fulfillment is not guaranteed.
