About

Professor Al Gorman was with the New York City Police Department for 18 years where he worked in a specialized patrol unit.  He designed training curriculum at the NYPD training academy where he eventually became director of curriculum development for the academy, where he oversaw the academy and selected academy instructors.  In his academic career, Professor Gorman has worked as an instructor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Professor Gorman came to Monmouth University in 1988.  Professor Gorman has a B.A. in Economics from Iona College and a M.A. in Criminal Justice from John Jay College.

Research Interests

Police stress and burnout; police cynicism; police organizational behavior; law enforcement ethics; community policing; development stages of cynicism among police; and the relationship between police organizational structure and police officer burnout
