September 25, 2025 – Wai Kong (Johnny) Pang, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, and Ryan Sonn\u00a0\u201925M, data science graduate student, recently co-published an article in the\u00a0International Journal of Business and Management\u00a0(Vol. 20, No. 8, 2025). Their study, \u201cThe Intricacies of College and University Closures: A Generalized Linear Model Perspective,\u201d uses statistical analysis to examine the patterns behind college and university closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CSSE Hosts Cyber and Quantum Seminar<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

September 22, 2025 – Specialist Professor Brian Callahan hosted \u201cCybersecurity in the Age of Quantum,\u201d a seminar to introduce cybersecurity and quantum computing research at Monmouth University. The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering is proud to announce opportunities in quantum computing, which is an entirely new class of computing that allows researchers to solve some of today\u2019s biggest problems. Quantum computing is at the cutting edge of research in the areas of healthcare and cybersecurity, among others. Callahan was joined by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute\u2019s Shoshana Sugerman (\u201926) to discuss how opportunities in this research shaped her academic career. In addition, Callahan also announced the formation of Monmouth University Cybersecurity Research Center, hosting a student research group and capture-the-flag (CTF) competition team.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Data and Computer Science Students Present at the SRP Symposium<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

August 7, 2025 – Undergraduates and graduate students had the opportunity to participate in Monmouth\u2019s School of Science Summer Research Program (SRP). This program is a 10-week paid research experience for students to work on collaborative research projects under the supervision of School of Science faculty, culminating in student presentations at the Summer Research Program Symposium on Aug. 7. In addition to the opportunity to present their work to faculty and professional contacts of the School of Science, students gained invaluable research experience that looks attractive to future employers and to graduate and professional school programs. 23rd Annual Student Research Conference | School of Science | Monmouth University<\/a> – Sushika Reddy, Winner Dean’s Award of Excellence<\/p>\n\n\n\n

April, 2025 – Working on the insurance pricing model audit paper was one of the most educational experiences I\u2019ve had at Monmouth. It wasn\u2019t just about the technical side; it taught me how to approach models critically, communicate results clearly, and think about fairness and ethics in a practical way. I learned so much from that process, and it really shaped how I think about data science work.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

CSSE Students Attend WECode Conference | School of Science | Monmouth University<\/a> – Mar Elbanna<\/p>\n\n\n\n

February, 2025 – The 2-day event was very educational and validating. I learned a lot from the speakers about the interview process and the state of the current job market for computer science and software engineering fields. It was catered towards those in Computer Science fields in a way that allowed everyone to gain something.  I\u2019m grateful for the opportunity to attend, as I was able to build connections I otherwise wouldn\u2019t have. I would encourage more people from our department to attend if given the chance as there is a lot of diverse experiences to learn from through both the speakers and the other attendees.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n
