According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2034, with about 317,700 openings each year on average. Among all occupations, software developers are projected to have the second-largest number of new jobs, with a growth rate of 16%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who major in computer science or software engineering are well positioned for rewarding career opportunities. According to the Winter 2025 Salary Survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), graduates in these fields are projected to command the highest starting salaries at both the bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree levels. The Data Science minor and the IT minor\u2014one of the largest minor programs on campus\u2014are designed to provide students from all majors with essential data analytics skills and technical literacy across disciplines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our growing graduate curriculum offers four programs with multiple degree options (including 5-year undergraduate\/graduate degrees). Our department offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate curriculum that prepares students to be industry leaders in computing or software engineering. The department features a minor in Information Technology designed to provide technical literacy for non-technological students across multiple majors. All programs in the CSSE department are consistent with Monmouth University&#8217;s goals to provide an innovative learning environment coupled with unique opportunities for students to not only break into dynamic fields, but to be trendsetters and decision makers in them. Our BS in Computer Science focuses on the science of computing and programming and is a well-established program with graduates holding prestigious positions in companies that are household names. Our BS in Software Engineering focuses on engineering of solutions to customer problems using software. It is unique in that it is one of only\u00a022 programs of its nature in the country to be accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Our MS programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering have been in place for more than 20 years. Our continuing graduate study programs offer opportunities to specialize in many areas including computer networks, databases, network security, telecommunications, information systems and management, embedded systems, and organizational management.
