My Story

I started off at Monmouth as a Math Education major after wanting to be a teacher my whole life. However, after my freshman year I realized that I didn’t want to be in the classroom and I was more interested in my math classes. After taking some of the statistics courses that Monmouth offered, I realized I wanted to head in that direction. I graduated in 2017 with a B.S in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics.

When it came time to graduate from Monmouth, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to use my mathematics background and still had an inclination toward the education field. I also wanted to end up in California. I started googling “Math Education Jobs in CA” and after scrolling through countless math teacher positions, I finally found one that looked appealing. It was a data role for a K-8 charter school organization in San Jose, CA.  In my role, I oversee the data collection of our four schools which includes creating data collection systems, managing the storage of data, and cleaning up data. I am responsible for creating reports for our teachers, principals, and network leaders. Not only do I use the technical and academic knowledge I learned from Monmouth, but more importantly Monmouth prepared me to think outside the box and taught me how to think critically. In my job, it is important to be able to problem solve – a skill I developed throughout my math courses at Monmouth.

Although my path after college wasn’t always clear, I couldn’t be happier with where I ended up. I cannot thank Monmouth University, and more specifically the Math Department, for all they have done to get me to where I am today. The variety of classes offered and the amount of support I received (and continue to receive!) makes me reflect so fondly of my time at Monmouth.
