Peer tutoring is free for all Monmouth University students.

What should I expect from a peer tutoring session?

Tutoring sessions are designed to help you become a more confident and independent learner. Tutors will help you understand course material rather than do the work for you.

Sessions are typically one-on-one. Depending on your needs, sessions may include:

Reviewing and clarifying course content

Demonstrations, modeling, and guided practice

Reviewing assignments and answering questions

Developing effective study strategies and learning techniques

Building confidence and independent learning skills

What should I not expect from a peer tutoring session?

Peer tutors are here to guide and support your learning, not complete your work for you. Tutoring is most effective when you come prepared and actively participate.

You should not expect a tutor to:

Complete assignments or coursework on your behalf

Cram with you the night before an exam

Guarantee a particular grade or academic outcome

Tutoring is most successful when combined with your own preparation, practice, and consistent effort.

How do I request a peer tutor?

You can request tutoring in two ways:

Use the Navigate360 App to schedule an appointment with a peer tutor.

Email Tutoring Services at tutoringservices@monmouth.edu. Include the course number and your preferred meeting times.

Who are the peer tutors?

Peer tutors are currently enrolled Monmouth University undergraduate students who meet the following qualifications:

A minimum overall GPA of 3.5

A grade of B or better in each course they tutor

Strong knowledge of their subject areas

A commitment to encouraging independent learning, critical thinking, and academic confidence

Tutors are not expected to know the answer to every question. When additional help is needed, they will work to locate the answer or direct students to an appropriate resource.

How often can I meet with a peer tutor?

Weekly tutoring is recommended to help reinforce course material and support long-term retention. However, you may meet with a tutor for one session, a few sessions, or as needed throughout the semester.

We encourage you to schedule appointments in advance so you and your tutor have enough time to find a mutually convenient meeting time.

How long will it take to get a peer tutor?

When scheduling through Navigate360, you can select an available appointment time and location.

For requests submitted by email, a tutor can usually be assigned within 48 to 72 hours of receiving your request. However, this timeframe may be longer during busy periods, such as midterms and finals, or when tutor availability is limited.

Please keep the following in mind:

Request tutoring as soon as you notice you are having difficulty with a course.

Do not assume same-day assistance will be available.

Once you receive your tutor’s information by email, contact your tutor promptly to arrange your first session.

For high-demand subjects, including science, business, and mathematics, early communication is especially important.

If scheduling conflicts arise, email tutoringservices@monmouth.edu to request another tutor match.

Your first session can take place as soon as you and your tutor find a mutually convenient time.

Can I get tutoring for more than one course?

Yes! When submitted, the form will be sent directly to the Director of Tutoring and Writing Services. You will be e-mailed the tutor’s contact information, which will enable you to set up a mutually agreeable place and time for your first tutoring session.
Who are the peer tutors?
Peer tutors are typically currently-enrolled undergraduate students at Monmouth University and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must have earned a “B” or better to tutor specific courses and have obtained at least one academic reference. Tutors are students who excel in their areas of expertise and are willing to promote and foster independent learning and thinking to enhance confidence in their tutees. Pictures and basic biographical information about the tutors can be found on the Meet Our Tutors page.
How often can I meet with a peer tutor?
You may meet with the tutor as often as you’d like, schedules permitting. It is recommended that the tutor and tutee communicate to discuss frequency of tutoring sessions, although meeting with a tutor on a weekly basis is highly recommended. Tutoring sessions typically last one to two hours per week; however, session lengths can vary based on need.
How long will it take for me to get a peer tutor?
Once the tutor request is received, average turnaround time for matches is 48 hours. During peak periods, such as midterms and finals, the time could be longer depending on tutor availability. You will be e-mailed the tutor’s information and should contact the tutor immediately, especially for high-demand courses, such as those in the sciences, business, and math. If scheduling conflicts occur, please contact the Director, and a new match will be attempted.
Can I have a tutor for more than one course?
Yes. Tutoring is offered in more than 100 undergraduate courses. It is the tutee’s responsibility to fill out a Tutor Request Form for each course.
Do I have to pay for tutoring?
No. Tutoring is FREE to all Monmouth University students.
Where and when can I meet with my tutor?
Tutoring times and places are very flexible and must be decided between the tutor and tutee. It is recommended that tutoring take place in one of the four established Tutor Zones:

Zone A: Center for Student Success (CSS)
Zone B: Rebecca Stafford Student Center
Zone C: Mullaney Hall, Room 136A (residential side of campus)
Zone D: Monmouth University Library

What should I expect from a tutoring session?
Tutoring sessions offer reinforcement or clarification of course content, demonstration, modeling, practice, and suggestions for learning the course material. Topics for improving study skills will be provided, and tutors will sit with you to review and discuss your work and answer questions.
What should I NOT expect from a session with a peer tutor?
The tutor will NOT do your work for you. You should NOT expect a tutor to cram with you the night before an exam, and meeting with a tutor will NOT guarantee you a high grade. A tutor should not replace your own hard work and preparation.
I need more help with my study skills. What do I do?
Students may meet with the Director to set up an appointment with a master tutor. Master tutors are faculty members who have strong teaching backgrounds and provide assistance with study strategies, learning styles, and course content. Master tutors have Monday-to-Friday office hours in the CSS, but appointments are required.
Is peer tutoring available for graduate students?
Since a majority of peer tutors are undergraduates, and therefore have not taken graduate-level courses, it is recommended that graduate students who feel they need tutoring first speak to their professors. More often, the professor will be able to address the needs and concerns of the student and may be able to recommend a former student or current classmate to further assist the student seeking help. However, students may make an appointment with the Director regarding meeting with a master tutor, who may be able to assist them with study strategies.

["post-681","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
