{"id":5158,"date":"2021-07-06T18:24:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T22:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/covid-19\/?page_id=5158"},"modified":"2023-02-20T12:30:44","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T17:30:44","slug":"vaccination-faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/covid-19\/vaccination-faqs\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Vaccination FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Updated: Monday Sept. 19, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; What are the new COVID Boosters?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; On August 31, 2022, two <strong>bivalent boosters<\/strong> were approved.&nbsp; Moderna bivalent booster is authorized for people 18 years and older.&nbsp; Pfizer bivalent booster is authorized for use in people ages 12 years and older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; What happened to the \u201cold\u201d boosters?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; The \u201cold\u201d boosters known as <strong>monovalent<\/strong> COVID1-19 vaccines are no longer authorized as a booster dose.&nbsp; Monovalent vaccines are still given as primary series vaccination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; When am I eligible to receive a bivalent vaccine booster?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; The bivalent vaccines are authorized as a single booster dose given <strong>at least 2 months<\/strong> <strong>after<\/strong> either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completion of primary vaccination OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receipt of the most recent booster dose with any approved monovalent COVID-19 vaccine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; What about children?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; At this time there are no changes to schedules for children ages 6 months through 11 years. Children ages 12 years and older are eligible for the bivalent booster dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ages 6 months to 4 years can receive the Pfizer monovalent primary series.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ages 5 through 11 years can receive the Pfizer monovalent primary series + 1 monovalent booster dose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ages 12 years and older can receive the Pfizer primary series + 1 bivalent booster dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; What is meant by the Fall Booster \u201cReset?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; The COVID vaccination recommendations have become simplified.&nbsp; Instead of counting how many doses you have received, everyone should have 1 bivalent booster when eligible.&nbsp; See chart below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-mu-table advgb-table-frontend\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Vaccination history<\/strong><\/td><td>\u2192<\/td><td><strong>Next dose<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Primary series<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>At least 2 months<\/strong> \u2192<\/td><td><strong>1 bivalent booster dose<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Primary series + 1 booster<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>At least 2 months<\/strong> \u2192<\/td><td><strong>1 bivalent booster dose<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Primary series + 2 booster<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>At least 2 months<\/strong> \u2192<\/td><td><strong>1 bivalent booster dose<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; I recently had COVID.&nbsp; When should I receive the bivalent booster dose?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; People who have recently had COVID may consider delaying any COVID-19 vaccination including bivalent booster vaccination by <strong>3 months<\/strong> from symptom onset or positive test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; What are the recommendations for bivalent boosters for people who are immunocompromised?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; Bivalent booster vaccination is recommended for those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised.&nbsp; Consult your healthcare provider for timing of vaccination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q:&nbsp; Can I receive a flu shot and COVID bivalent booster at the same time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A:&nbsp; Yes!
