Monmouth’s unique Student Career Planning Guide encourages students to begin career planning from the first day they enter the University. Career counseling, resources, and workshops are provided for all students, especially those selecting and changing majors. Interest inventories and a computerized guidance system are available to help students assess their interests and values.
CAREER SEARCH (LC300)
Career Search is a one-credit course offered each semester. The course focuses on writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing, researching companies, and other aspects of the job search.
All undergraduate students need to complete the Experiential Education requirement in order to graduate. Recognizing that students can learn more by combining the theories and ideas taught in the classroom with experiences from the “real world,” Monmouth provides opportunities such as internships, cooperative education, service-learning, and experienced education courses to help students achieve these objectives.
EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION WEB SITE
The Experiential Education Web site is a valuable resource for students that provides how-to information, a search engine with more than 1,000 potential opportunities, a listing of eligible courses, and student success stories. Special workshops and programs, along with the newsletter Experiential Education News, are offered during the academic year in order to further help students achieve this very important graduation requirement.
Students and alumni who want to keep up on opportunities in the job market can view new jobs via the Hawks Career Link. The Hawks Career Link is a fully integrated system that students and alumni can use to view full-time, part-time, and internship positions posted here by employers seeking to hire Monmouth students and alumni. Resumes and other documents can be uploaded for use in job applications. Students and alumni may also view information about employers and upcoming career events.
Students and alumni are also encouraged to visit with staff in the Career Services office to learn about other strategies for researching and locating job opportunities, such as using internet job boards, LinkedIn, job fairs, and networking. Career Services staff can provide advice for all career-related questions, edit and review resumes, coach individuals preparing for job interviews, as well as offer advice about pursuing graduate school. MONMOUTH COUNTY SPCA
“The Monmouth County SPCA is a nonprofit organization, so our partnership with Monmouth University allows us to increase our workforce and also work with energetic, intelligent, young people with a hunger for learning. We hire students to work with our veterinary technicians and in departments like Animal Care, Customer Service, and Adoptions. They have a variety of responsibilities and also participate in outreaches and promotional events.”
