Purpose of Position<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Certified Peer Specialist provides recovery-oriented support services to youth participating in the Juvenile Office\u2019s Outpatient Clinical Program. Drawing from lived experience and formal peer certification, this role supports youth in building resilience, developing pro-social skills, and engaging in behavioral health treatment.<\/p>\n

The Certified Peer Specialist facilitates group services and provides individual peer support, working collaboratively with the clinical team to promote positive youth development, reduce recidivism, and support long-term recovery and stability.<\/p>\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peer Support Services<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Provide individual peer support services<\/strong> to youth, focusing on engagement, motivation, and skill development.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  • Utilize lived experience (as appropriate and within ethical guidelines) to build trust, model recovery, and instill hope.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n
  • Assist youth in identifying strengths, setting goals, and developing personalized recovery and success plans.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n
  • Support youth in navigating challenges related to behavioral health, substance use, family dynamics, and system involvement.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Group Facilitation<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • Facilitate and co-facilitate peer-led groups<\/strong> focused on topics such as:\u00a0\n
        \n
      • Recovery and relapse prevention\u00a0<\/li>\n
      • Emotional regulation and coping skills\u00a0<\/li>\n
      • Life skills and decision-making\u00a0<\/li>\n
      • Healthy relationships and communication\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging group environment that encourages youth voice and participation<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/li>\n
      • Collaborate with clinicians to ensure group content aligns with treatment goals and evidence-informed practices.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Engagement and Mentorship<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
          \n
        • Develop supportive, mentoring relationships with youth to encourage consistent program participation<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/li>\n
        • Provide encouragement and accountability to help youth follow through with treatment and court expectations.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n
        • Assist youth in building pro-social connections and community supports<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Care Coordination and Team Collaboration<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
            \n
          • Work closely with clinicians, probation officers, and program staff to support integrated care delivery<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n
          • Participate in treatment team meetings<\/strong>, providing insight into youth engagement and progress.\u00a0<\/li>\n
          • Assist in connecting youth to community-based recovery and support resources<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Family and Community Support<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
              \n
            • Support family engagement by reinforcing communication, understanding, and recovery principles<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/li>\n
            • Assist youth in transitioning to community-based supports, including peer networks and recovery resources<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Documentation and Compliance<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
                \n
              • Maintain accurate and timely documentation<\/strong> of peer services in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.\u00a0<\/li>\n
              • Adhere to confidentiality standards (HIPAA)<\/strong> and ethical guidelines for peer support services.\u00a0<\/li>\n
              • Track service delivery, youth engagement, and outcomes as required.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Professional Development<\/strong><\/i><\/h3>\n
                  \n
                • Maintain active Certified Peer Specialist credential<\/strong> and complete required continuing education.\u00a0<\/li>\n
                • Participate in ongoing training related to trauma-informed care, adolescent development, and juvenile justice systems.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/li>\n
                • Engage in supervision and utilize feedback to strengthen service delivery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

                  Current certification as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) (Missouri credential preferred).\u00a0<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Lived experience with recovery (mental health and\/or substance use) required.\u00a0<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Experience working with youth or young adults preferred.<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate youth.<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.\u00a0<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n

                  Basic computer skills and ability to complete required documentation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

                  \u00a0<\/p>\n
