Purpose of Position<\/p>\n
Greene County Position Description<\/strong><\/p>\n The\u00a0purpose of this\u00a0position\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0represent the\u00a0Juvenile\u00a0Court\u00a0in\u00a0juvenile\u00a0cases brought\u00a0before\u00a0the\u00a0Family Court-Juvenile\u00a0Division,\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0provide legal\u00a0advice\u00a0and\u00a0assistance\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0staff ,under\u00a0the\u00a0direction of\u00a0the Director of Legal\u00a0Services.<\/p>\n Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n The\u00a0following\u00a0duties\u00a0are\u00a0normal for\u00a0this\u00a0position. These\u00a0are\u00a0not\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0construed\u00a0as\u00a0exclusive or\u00a0all\u00ad inclusive. Other duties may be required and\u00a0assigned.<\/strong><\/p>\n Represents\u00a0the\u00a0Juvenile\u00a0Office\u00a0in\u00a0all\u00a0aspects\u00a0of\u00a0litigation\u00a0and\u00a0court\u00a0appearances, including,\u00a0but\u00a0not\u00a0limited to,\u00a0Jurisdictional\/Dispositional\u00a0hearings,\u00a0certification\u00a0hearings,\u00a0termination\u00a0of\u00a0parental\u00a0rights hearings,\u00a0and appeals.<\/p>\n Prepares\u00a0briefs and\u00a0memoranda\u00a0for\u00a0appellate\u00a0courts and\u00a0makes\u00a0oral\u00a0arguments\u00a0when\u00a0required;\u00a0Litigation\u00a0of cases\u00a0includes\u00a0appearances\u00a0in\u00a0pre-hearing\u00a0conference\u00a0&\u00a0pre-trial\u00a0discoveries\u00a0and\u00a0negotiates\u00a0with other\u00a0legal counsel regarding pleas and case\u00a0status.<\/p>\n Meet\u00a0with\u00a0Deputy\u00a0Juvenile Officers\u00a0to\u00a0determine if\u00a0legal\u00a0sufficiency is\u00a0present\u00a0prior\u00a0to\u00a0petition\u00a0being\u00a0filed. Prepare order and judgements for the Juvenile Court<\/p>\n Preparation of petitions for involuntary terminations of parental rights, child abuse\/neglect, and delinquency.<\/p>\n Reviews law enforcement reports, children’s division reports, medical reports, etc. for case preparation. Reviews, assists, and\/or prepares all legal documents.<\/p>\n Interviews witnesses and victims to develop case evidence and strategy. Takes and defends depositions.<\/p>\n Advises administration regarding office procedure and policy.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Meets with community agencies and multi-disciplinary teams regarding cases and juvenile justice issues. Consults with staff regarding legal issues and interpretations of the law.<\/p>\n Responsible for legal research, securing legislative updates, amendments\/additions to the law and decisions regarding case law, and provides training to staff on said issues.<\/p>\n Respond to requests for courts and Juvenile Office social records including the redacting of contents of reports authorized by law to be disseminated.<\/p>\n Provides legal advice and consultation to Family court Administrator\/Chief Juvenile Officer on issues related to Juvenile Office operations.<\/p>\n Work is reviewed through supervisory conferences, reports, achievement of stated goals and broad objectives, and adherence to judicial and legal mandates.<\/p>\n Additional Tasks and Responsibilities<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.<\/strong><\/p>\n Performs word processing, copying, faxing and filing of information.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Juris Doctor degree, Missouri Bar Association member required. Experience in Juvenile, Family Law and Criminal Law with a minimum of 3 years\u2019 experience preferred.
