$109,936.50 annually ($39.8898\/hr &#8211; $52.8540\/hr)<\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Job Type:<\/u><\/strong><i><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Full-time, Non-Exempt, Civil Service<\/i><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Position Summary:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general\u00a0direction, the Fire Prevention and Education Officer\u00a0position\u00a0is\u00a0primarily responsible\u00a0for\u00a0code\u00a0enforcement and\u00a0field\u00a0operations\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Community Risk Reduction (CRR)Division.\u00a0Responsibilities include\u00a0conducting code enforcement inspections,\u00a0coordinating public safety education, fire prevention activities, and CRR program\u00a0functions and projects as assigned.\u00a0This position\u00a0is responsible\u00a0for enforcement\u00a0and education activities\u00a0pertaining to the entire Urbana community,\u00a0with jurisdictional focus on either the City of Urbana or the University of Illinois\u00a0campus, as assigned by the Deputy Fire Chief of CRR.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Actively supports and upholds\u00a0the City\u2019s\u00a0mission and\u00a0values.<\/li>\n<li>Performs\u00a0fire\u00a0and\u00a0life\u00a0safety\u00a0code\u00a0inspections\u00a0in\u00a0City\u00a0and\u00a0University\u00a0of\u00a0Illinois commercial and residential\u00a0buildings; enforces fire and life safety codes for City\u00a0properties\u00a0and reports code violations for the University\u00a0of Illinois properties\u00a0to appropriate\u00a0University\u00a0staff.<\/li>\n<li>Reviews building plans to assure\u00a0compliance with\u00a0building and fire codes and\u00a0provides recommendations\u00a0to the University\u00a0of Illinois\u00a0on fire\u00a0suppression\u00a0and detection systems,\u00a0as well\u00a0as operational concerns\u00a0relating\u00a0to the delivery\u00a0of fire and\u00a0emergency\u00a0services on the UIUC\u00a0campus.<\/li>\n<li>Liaises with property owners to provide information and education on fire safety risk mitigation; works closely\u00a0with City of Urbana\u00a0or\u00a0University\u00a0of Illinois staff\u00a0to promote fire safety\u00a0activities and awareness.<\/li>\n<li>Assists\u00a0in coordinating\u00a0activities\u00a0of staff\u00a0during\u00a0public information,\u00a0education,\u00a0and\u00a0community relations programs and\u00a0events related to CRR.<\/li>\n<li>Assists\u00a0in coordinating operational analysis of data and program\u00a0evaluation\u00a0on services, programs, and projects assigned to the CRR Division, including\u00a0but not limited to fire prevention, and\u00a0public\u00a0safety education.<\/li>\n<li>Assists in coordinating the Public Safety\u00a0Education\u00a0and Fire\u00a0Prevention programs with numerous other\u00a0agencies,\u00a0including but not limited\u00a0to the University\u00a0of Illinois\u00a0and the City of\u00a0Champaign.<\/li>\n<li>Provides input and makes recommendations for\u00a0long-range\u00a0risk reduction planning\u00a0to establish\u00a0future departmental\u00a0and division\u00a0needs.<\/li>\n<li>Presents and\u00a0facilitates\u00a0fire safety\u00a0classes and workshops for various school\u00a0and\u00a0community\u00a0groups.<\/li>\n<li>Identifies and tracks CRR trends, developments,\u00a0and public education needs and opportunities in the\u00a0area of fire service risk reduction; develops\u00a0applicable education programs\u00a0and\u00a0materials or makes recommendations as required.<\/li>\n<li>Trains fire department staff\u00a0in fire code, public\u00a0education,\u00a0public\u00a0information dissemination,\u00a0and community\u00a0relations programs, activities, requirements, and best practices.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Disseminates\u00a0information concerning\u00a0special fire\u00a0department\u00a0events and other departmental\u00a0operations\u00a0to\u00a0the department,\u00a0the\u00a0community,\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0agencies.<\/li>\n<li>Prepares\u00a0lists\u00a0of pre-incident\u00a0plans,\u00a0Knox Box information,\u00a0and walkthroughs\u00a0for City and campus\u00a0buildings.<\/li>\n<li>Completes department assigned training.<\/li>\n<li>Performs other related duties\u00a0as\u00a0assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Required \/ Minimum Qualifications:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completion of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in fire code enforcement, fire prevention, public safety, and\/or commercial building inspection, or comparable related experience.
