PURPOSE OF POSITION:<\/strong><\/p>\n Under the direction of the Electric T&D Specialist or designee, performs engineering duties necessary for the completion of the department\u2019s goals.\u00a0 Duties will be dependent upon the individual job classification and departmental workload and may include any or all the duties described below. The primary focus of this position will be completing the design and engineering functions required to create projects for poles which have been identified for replacement.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities, specifically pertaining to creating engineered drawings for poles identified for replacement.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Designs line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities.<\/p>\n 4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, whiteway lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects.<\/p>\n 5.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects.<\/p>\n 6.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Interfaces with outside agencies at all levels as required. \u00a0Obtains construction permits from appropriate agencies.<\/p>\n 7.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Reviews, updates, and prepares electric construction standards. \u00a0Prepares job sketches, drawings, material lists, cost estimates, and construction labor estimates as required. \u00a0<\/p>\n 8.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Analyzes various new materials and processes and works with vendors and equipment suppliers as required. \u00a0Stays current on electric transmission and distribution technology.<\/p>\n 9.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Reviews electric plans as part of City Plan Review process to ensure compliance with Electric Service Standards, including compliance with the National Electrical Code and the National Electrical Safety Code.<\/p>\n 10.\u00a0\u00a0Prepares contracts for bidding purposes as required to secure contractors to perform work on electrical system such as line construction, maintenance, and emergency rebuilds.<\/p>\n 11.\u00a0\u00a0Designs work referenced above is subject to the approval of a Registered Professional Engineer to assure compliance with federal, state, or local requirements.<\/p>\n 12.\u00a0\u00a0Performs other related duties as assigned by management. QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n Education and Experience:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Pursuing a bachelor\u2019s degree in engineering from a school with a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. No previous engineering experience is required. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and\/or GIS software is preferred.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Licensing\/Certification:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Must have a valid driver\u2019s license (minimum Class F).<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Working knowledge of engineering functions and problem-solving techniques.<\/p>\n Ability to:<\/p>\n o\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Pay attention to detail and follow detailed instructions. o\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Maintain adherence to all company policies.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Physical Requirements:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Must be able to bend, stoop, and walk long distances over uneven terrain to survey electric line facilities. Must be able to express or exchange ideas and receive detailed information through oral and written communication. Must be able to pass the Ishihara color vision test and\/or be able to visually differentiate and identify colors on computer monitor. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and\/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required. Must be able to visually differentiate between color-coded lines and symbols associated with utilization of AutoCAD and\/or graphic work design tools. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Working Conditions:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Duties are primarily performed in an office environment with some outside field work in all weather conditions.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Miscellaneous Requirements:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n New hires are informed of the requirements of the Internship Program upon hire, and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment.
