{"id":90095,"date":"2026-09-02T19:00:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T19:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/youth-counselor-before-school-taylor-family-ymca-2\/"},"modified":"2026-09-20T08:27:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T12:27:30","slug":"youth-counselor-before-school-taylor-family-ymca-2","status":"publish","type":"ch_job","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/career-development\/job\/youth-counselor-before-school-taylor-family-ymca-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Counselor &#8211; Before School &#8211; Taylor Family YMCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>POSITION SUMMARY:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the supervision of the Youth Site Director the Youth Counselor is responsible for leading, developing, and building relationships with the youth participants in the program.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Job Schedule:\u00a0 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. \u00a0In addition to the hourly rate of $11\/hour, you will receive an extra $2\/hour when working in any Before School program, for a total of $13\/hour.<\/p>\n<p>Before School Sites may include &#8211; Laurel Park, Turner Creek, Morrisville, Adams, Salem, Cary and Farmington Woods Elementary.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Supervises\u00a0and builds relationships with\u00a0a group of elementary\u00a0and\/or middle school\u00a0students.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate\u00a0and\u00a0consistent with YMCA values.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Creates an atmosphere that is fun, safe, friendly and challenging.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mentors and models responsible behavior while leading\u00a0children in the program.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Models and facilitates relationship-building skills in all interactions\u00a0and maintains positive\u00a0relationships with campers, parents, school staff and other YMCA staff.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adheres to\u00a0YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary\u00a0situations, child abuse prevention and emergency management.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that space and equipment used for the program is taken care of and\u00a0left in good, clean condition daily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attends staff meetings and trainings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Must be at least 16 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Previous experience working with children or teens\u00a0preferred\u00a0but\u00a0not required.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor education, planning and\u00a0organizing activities, crafts, songs\/music, skits, sports, recreational games,\u00a0etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Specific certifications and\/or training may be required.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Multi-lingual desired but not required.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>WORK ENVIRONMENT &amp; PHYSICAL DEMANDS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
