This internship gives aspiring educators the opportunity to build real classroom management and teaching skills while leading elementary and middle school students in an engaging outdoor classroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re pursuing a career in elementary education, secondary education, environmental education, biology, or another education-related field, you&#8217;ll gain valuable experience planning and facilitating lessons, managing student groups, and creating memorable learning experiences\u2014all while working in a beautiful garden setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What You&#8217;ll Do\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a STEM &amp; Environmental Education Intern, you will support Botanica&#8217;s educational programs for school groups, homeschool groups, daycares, youth organizations, families, and community visitors.\u00a0You&#8217;ll\u00a0help create engaging outdoor experiences that connect students with science, nature, sustainability, and art.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interns will:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist\u00a0with field trips and group visits serving students from preschool through middle school, including public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, daycares, camps, and youth organizations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Lead hands-on STEM and environmental learning activities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate educational lessons aligned with Kansas State Standards, incorporating topics such as plant science, ecology, sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Guide students through hands-on nature investigations, art projects, creative workshops, and inquiry-based learning experiences.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate outdoor activities such as garden exploration, nature walks, carousel rides, sensory activities, free play, and interactive learning stations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Gain real-world classroom management experience by supervising groups of students and supporting positive behavior in an outdoor learning environment.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0with program\u00a0logistics\u00a0including participant check-in and check-out, attendance, activity transitions, lunch supervision, and general group management.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Prepare educational materials, classroom supplies, learning stations, and program spaces before and after programs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Provide welcoming and professional customer service to students, teachers, parents, chaperones, and garden visitors.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0education staff with lesson preparation, curriculum planning, program evaluation, and the development of new educational activities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with experienced educators to improve programming and create meaningful learning experiences for diverse audiences.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Receive mentoring from education professionals and gain experience valuable for future teaching, education, and public engagement careers.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skills You&#8217;ll Develop\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Classroom management and student engagement\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Lesson facilitation and instructional delivery\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Inquiry-based and experiential teaching practices\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Public speaking and presentation skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Outdoor and environmental education techniques\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Program planning and organization\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Customer service and hospitality\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Team collaboration and problem solving\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum development and educational program evaluation\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Details\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<strong>Competitive hourly pay:<\/strong>\u00a0$12.00\/hour\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Schedule:<\/strong>\u00a0Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-1:00 PM (approximately 20 hours\/week)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>Semester:<\/strong>\u00a0September 1-November 6, 2026\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Flexible scheduling around university class schedules whenever possible\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9sum\u00e9-building professional experience\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Priority consideration for future employment opportunities at Botanica\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Work in one of Kansas&#8217;
