For more information, please visit\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ymcawnc.org\/\">ymcawnc.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE ROLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the Swim Instructor, you will provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes of all ages and abilities. In addition, you will provide exceptional customer service to promote aquatics programs and the YMCA. The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening the community and the nation\u2019s largest provider of swim lessons to increase skills related to Safety Around Water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.<br \/>\u2022 Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.<br \/>\u2022 Provides exceptional customer service to promote the aquatics program and the YMCA.<br \/>\u2022 Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refers students and parents to other programs.<br \/>\u2022 Ensures the safety of each swim lesson class participant at all times.<br \/>\u2022 Maintains accurate participant records for each session, including each participant&#8217;s attendance and skill progress.<br \/>\u2022 Attends all staff meetings and training as scheduled.<br \/>\u2022 Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as needed.<br \/>\u2022 Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment to the aquatics leadership.<br \/>\u2022 Trains and supervises class aides as needed.<br \/>\u2022 Initiates communications with the Aquatics Leadership as necessary concerning program problems, personal conflicts, and member concerns.<br \/>\u2022 Perform all other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABOUT YOU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Must be 15 years of age or older, preferably with previous swim instructing experience.<br \/>\u2022 Must successfully complete the following certifications within their first 60 days:<br \/>a. Accredited Swim Lesson Instructor (YMCA, ARC, or equivalent)<br \/>b. CPR for the Professional Rescuer<br \/>c. Standard First Aid<br \/>d. Emergency Oxygen Administration \u2013 O2<br \/>e. Automated External Defibrillation \u2013 AED<br \/>f. Be the Brand training (within 60 days)<br \/>\u2022 The following certifications are preferred but not required:<br \/>h. YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA) or YMCA Lifeguarding<br \/>i. YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor (YSL)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills.<br \/>\u2022 Able to communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
