The TMHH Club empowers teens to make healthier choices for themselves and their families. You will serve as a catalyst for sustainable change, promoting improved health and wellness and creating leadership opportunities for teens at your assigned sites.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a TMHH Mentor,\u202fyou\u202fwill\u202fserve\u202fas a near-peer mentor to local middle and high school students\u202fover the course of the semester.\u202fYou\u202fwill gain hands on experience leading our health and wellness club, Teens Make Health Happen, in area schools and by supporting teens in planning and leading wellness programming such as lunchtime demonstrations, step challenges and community improvement projects.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What You\u2019ll Do<\/strong>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Responsibilities:<\/i>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Develop Strong Relationships.<\/strong>\u202fYou\u202fwill\u202fcollaborate with\u202fteen\u202fwellness\u202fleaders\u202fand site partners\u202fto ensure effective delivery of\u202fHealthCorps\u2019\u202fprogramming across\u202f2\u202f\u2013\u202f3\u202fschool sites.\u202fYou will\u202fcollaborate with your Regional Program Manager\u202fand other\u202farea mentors, as well as\u202fparticipate in\u202fongoing professional development and leadership opportunities, provided by the organization at\u202fno-expense.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assess Your\u202fSchools\u2019\u202fNeeds and Progress.<\/strong>\u202fYou will research\u202fwhat\u202fhealth inequities\u202fthe\u202fschools\u202fyou serve are facing and then measure your impact by\u202fcompleting a needs assessment,\u202freporting,\u202fand tracking\u202fyour work\u202fthroughout your mentorship.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lead\u202fTeens Make Health Happen\u202fClubs.<\/strong>\u202fYou\u202fwill\u202fplan and\u202fimplement the\u202fsuccessful delivery of\u202fthe HealthCorps\u2019 program offering, Teens Make Health Happen, between 8-11+\u202fhours\u202f(each\u202fweek)\u202fthroughout the\u202fcourse of the semester.\u202fYour commitment to this program will\u202frequire\u202fyou\u202fto be\u202fat your assigned school sites\/campuses\u202ffor 3-4 hours each week for instructional purposes.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Share and Make Aware.<\/strong>\u202fYou will host Caf\u00e9 O Yea demonstrations at each of your sites monthly and support them with regional events. You will support and contribute to\u202fHealthCorps\u2019\u202fsocial media platforms (Instagram,\u202fTikTok, etc.)\u202fby sharing program highlights, stories of impact, and photos\u202fthat\u202fwill\u202fshine a bright light on\u202fyour students.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commit to the\u202fHealthCorps\u202fMission.<\/strong>\u202fYou\u202fwill prioritize health and wellness\u202fdaily\u202fand work to ensure that\u202frelevant, local\u202fhealth resources\u202fare\u202faccessible for all\u202fstudents and staff at your respective sites. Your spark to serve will leave a lasting, positive impact on your community.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Represent\u202fHealthCorps\u202fin Houston.<\/strong>\u202fYou will\u202fbe an embodiment and extension of our organization\u202fand our values,\u202fboth\u202finside and outside your sites.\u202fYour presence &#8212; whether at your assigned sites or at an area-wide event &#8212; will be an asset in outreach efforts that connect teens, staff, and community members to\u202fHealthCorps\u202fresources and materials.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Minimum\u202fQualifications:<\/i>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An undergraduate or graduate college student majoring,\u202for interested,\u202fin public health, public policy, biology, nutrition, marketing, psychology, education, social work or other related fields.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In good academic standing with your university\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A\u202fcommitment of 8-11+ hours each week to the mentorship\u202ffor the entire\u202fFall and Spring semester\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A self-expectation and strong desire to grow personally and professionally as a leader in the community, and as a\u202fspeaker who is comfortable\u202fin\u202flearning and\u202fpresenting on\u202fhealth-related topics to a teen audience\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Physical Requirements:<\/i>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ability to travel\u202fto assigned sites, which may include\u202fdistances of up to\u202f20 miles\/\u202fwithin the San Diego region.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Must be able to\u202flift up\u202fto 15 pounds at times\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What You\u2019ll Gain<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>College credit:\u202f<\/i>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>HealthCorps will work with you and your university to provide college credit* for the mentorship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>*Depending on the specific requirements and guidelines of your university this may be in the form of college or course credit or practicum hours.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Professional Development:\u202f<\/i>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You will receive ongoing training, professional development, and mentorship throughout your time in the mentorship program. You will gain direct experience in public health and the education system and have opportunities to network with community leaders in the field.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Stipend:\u202f<\/i>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You will receive a stipend based on the number of sites you serve. This stipend is intended to help alleviate potential costs that you may incur from participating in the program.
