And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Role<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We are seeking a <strong>Geoscientific Analyst<\/strong> who combines geoscience expertise with advanced data science and Python development to scale and optimize Ideon\u2019s geoscience data workflows. You\u2019ll work at the intersection of geoscience, data engineering, and scientific computing, partnering with teams across geoscience, research and development, and software working on muon tomography, inversion, and end-to-end workflows.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You understand both geoscience and data science, write high-quality Python, and are comfortable working with complex geoscience models and data. You enjoy improving scientific workflows through automation, use AI tools and modern development approaches day to day, and collaborate effectively across science and software teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reporting to the Manager, Geosciences, you\u2019ll collaborate with geoscientists, applied scientists, physicists, software developers, and data scientists to improve how geophysical and geological data are processed, managed, and analyzed across Ideon\u2019s subsurface imaging workflows.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll optimize data processing pipelines, improve geoscience modeling notebooks, and integrate AI-assisted workflows into Ideon\u2019s scientific processes. You\u2019ll ensure geoscience data and inversion workflows are scalable, reproducible, efficient, and well-structured for both customer project delivery and internal research.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You will drive Ideon\u2019s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:<\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Data Science &amp; Workflow Optimization<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design and optimize Python-based data pipelines for geoscience and geophysical datasets<\/li>\n<li>Improve data management, organization, and reproducibility across geoscience workflows<\/li>\n<li>Develop and maintain scalable Jupyter notebook frameworks for processing and analysis<\/li>\n<li>Optimize inversion and forward modelling notebooks for performance, reliability, and maintainability<\/li>\n<li>Refactor existing scientific code into modular, maintainable, and reusable components<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Geoscience Data Processing<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with large geoscience datasets including muon tomography, geophysical survey data, geological models, and time-series datasets<\/li>\n<li>Support the geoscience team in automating data processing, model generation, and visualization workflows<\/li>\n<li>Improve computational efficiency of geoscience modelling workflows through parallelization, vectorization, and optimized algorithms<\/li>\n<li>Implement reproducible workflows for data QC, feature extraction, and model preparation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>AI &amp; Advanced Analytics<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrate AI-assisted tools and machine learning techniques into geoscience data workflows<\/li>\n<li>Use modern AI coding tools and automation methods to accelerate development of scientific workflows<\/li>\n<li>Explore opportunities for machine learning, statistical modelling, and pattern recognition in geoscience datasets<\/li>\n<li>Develop tools to support automated model diagnostics, anomaly detection, and uncertainty analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Cross-Team Collaboration<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as a bridge between geoscience, R&amp;D, and software teams<\/li>\n<li>Translate scientific workflow requirements into efficient and scalable computational solutions<\/li>\n<li>Support integration of geoscience workflows into internal software platforms and applications<\/li>\n<li>Help establish best practices for scientific computing, version control, and reproducible research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Priorities in the first few months will include:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Month 1-2<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a strong understanding of Ideon\u2019s data architecture, geoscience workflows, and data inversion &amp; AI<\/li>\n<li>Gain deep familiarity with geophysical and geological datasets used in modelling workflows<\/li>\n<li>Partner with existing team members to walk through multiple exemplary projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Month 2\u20134<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply consistent geoscience data processing and modelling workflows across few owned projects<\/li>\n<li>Follow robust and reproducible approaches for data preparation, QC, and model inputs<\/li>\n<li>Leverage automation and AI-assisted tools to streamline workflows<\/li>\n<li>Identify and communicate opportunities to enhance data processing, modelling, and inversion workflows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Month 4+<\/i><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop efficient, well-structured workflows, working with software, geoscience and R &amp; D teams to minimise time and manual effort across projects, and using AI capabilities to build subsurface insights with zero- or low-code.<\/li>\n<li>Own end-to-end geoscience outcomes for multiple projects, from data processing through modelling, interpretation, and delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Success in the role looks like:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consistently leverages geoscience workflows to deliver reliable and reproducible results across projects<\/li>\n<li>Understands the \u201cso what\u201d and is able to connect and articulate results to value for customers<\/li>\n<li>Efficiently executes data processing and preparation with minimal errors and rework<\/li>\n<li>Maintains well-structured, clear, and usable processes for modelling and analysis<\/li>\n<li>Reduces manual effort by effectively and collaboratively using and enhancing established workflows, tools, and automation<\/li>\n<li>Delivers project outputs on time with consistent quality and structure<\/li>\n<li>Collaborates effectively with other technical teams to support project delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>Must-haves<\/u> \u2013 You\u2019ll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Degree in Mining, Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, Data Science, Physics, or related field<\/li>\n<li>Strong understanding and previous experience working with geoscience or geophysical data<\/li>\n<li>Expert-level Python programming (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, Plotly, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Extensive experience with Jupyter notebooks and scientific computing workflows<\/li>\n<li>Experience with complex scientific datasets and optimized modeling workflows and codes.<\/li>\n<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to translate scientific problems into scalable computational solutions<\/li>\n<li>Well-developed communication skills in English at a fluent or professional level; 4611 Viking Way in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a <u>hybrid<\/u><strong> <\/strong>role. We love seeing folks in the office 2+ times a week; you\u2019re welcome to work from home the remainder of the week or come into the office all 5 days if you prefer. Our \u201cbe an adult\u201d approach means you have the flexibility to determine your in-office schedule while factoring in the positive impact of face-to-face connection and communication with your leader and teammates.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During your first few months, it\u2019s anticipated you\u2019ll spend more time in the office to support role-specific onboarding and relationship building.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u>Hours of work<\/u>: 8 hrs\/day, M-F. Typical working hours are 9AM-5PM-ish pacific time; some employees shift slightly earlier or later based on business and personal needs.
