Summary<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for coordinating the patient flow to obtain requested imaging studies in a fast paced environment. This is achieved through order verification, Quality Assurance of the imaging equipment, proper patient identification and obtaining appropriate imaging following approved policies and protocols. This is to include proper patient preparation and education which may begin prior to the patient arrival. The technologist may be involved in part of a procedural team. The technologist will treat patients of all age groups which includes infancy, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics. The technologist must be knowledgeable of age specific protocols. The technologist must be flexible to cover a variety of shifts with weekend, holiday and non-restricted call duties required as needed.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. \u2022 Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. \u2022 Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure \u2013 makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. \u2022 Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical\/health care errors. \u2022 Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents any deviation. \u2022 Interacts professional with patient\/family. \u2022 Understands and practices proper use of all equipment, never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer\u2019s instruction. \u2022 Communicates effectively with other departments to remove barriers with patient throughput and care. \u2022 Prepares and administers radiopaque mixtures for patients. \u2022 Operates Med-Rad power injector. \u2022 Communicates effectively with ordering physicians to ensure patients receive the best care and fastest turnaround time. \u2022 Performs venipuncture on all patients requiring administration of IV contrast. \u2022 Obtains written or verbal consent from patient or other responsible party before administering IV contrast. \u2022 Shows flexibility in covering vacant shifts as department needs arise. \u2022 Prepares and maintains records and files as directed: o a. Maintains QA\/QC records for CT scanner; performs QA exposures on water phantom weekly o b. Maintains QA records for incidence of IV contrast allergic reactions and reports findings to hospital pharmacist \u2022 Orders all non-stock needed in CT department. Maintains and replenishes special procedure supplies (needles, catheters, etc.) as directed by the Radiologist. \u2022 Orders all IV contrast directly through Materials Management. \u2022 Maintains CT cleanliness and restocks supplies for the next shift. \u2022 Accepts and acts upon constructive criticism to upgrade abilities. \u2022 Offers assistance and\/or instruction to coworker. \u2022 Participates in job training to trainees\/students. \u2022 Seeks new responsibilities and offers to help with additional projects during downtime. \u2022 Sends images via teleradiology during off hours \u2022 Operates required aspects of PACS System.<\/p>\n
