A part-time intern must be available to work 15 hours per week. This position offers a flexible work schedule, coordinated with the intern\u2019s school schedule and operational needs. Preferred working hours are Tuesday through Friday (occasional Saturdays possible), between\u00a09 and 4:30, 3+ hours per shift.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>POSTING DATE:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>June 26, 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEADLINE DATE:<\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>July 14, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE: <\/strong>A list of already-completed MLIS, research-based, or related coursework (official transcripts are not necessary)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>DESCRIPTION:\u00a0 <\/strong>The Intern will experience work in a busy Special Collections\/Archival environment, including participating in daily library activities, completing projects related to public access of MNHS collections items, and developing a network of contacts in the library field.\u00a0 Ongoing projects will vary and likely include developing research guides and analyzing reference tools for improvement.\u00a0 The Intern will also shadow at various service desks, work at the Library\u2019s registration desk, and learn about other types of library work that interest them (from other Library, Archives, and Collections Division departments).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Communicating with members of the public via in-person interactions at the Library Registration Desk<\/li>\n<li>Learning and using various types of library computer software<\/li>\n<li>Using various types of regular office software (documents, spreadsheets, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Researching in catalogs, search systems, and databases<\/li>\n<li>Selecting and prioritizing collection materials for inclusion in learning tools based on standards<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.<\/li>\n<li>Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing, or a graduate with a degree in the following areas: Library\/Info Science graduate program attendee, History or Public History, Social Science or Humanities Degree with Primary Source Research.<\/li>\n<li>We are looking for someone who likes research, has good attention to detail, and has customer service skills\/experience. It would be good for the Intern to be able to work well both as a part of a team and independently.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>We strongly prefer a Graduate student in a Library\/Info Science program, and it would be helpful if the Intern had some knowledge of library catalogs and research, through coursework and\/or experience.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE INTERN IS EXPECTED TO GAIN:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Intern will get work experience in a busy special collections library environment, create multiple deliverables that are appropriate for a professional portfolio, and build their professional network.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEMINAR EVENTS:\u00a0<\/strong>Interns are require to participate in three, in-person seminars focused on professional development, learning how cultural organizations operate, and building a network of industry professionals.
