Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health.\u00a0In partnership with\u00a0the\u00a0Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge, CCNM\u00a0will\u00a0support\u00a0a\u00a0Visitor Services Intern.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>National Wildlife Refuge\u00a0(NWR)\u00a0Visitor Services\u00a0manage\u00a0facilities and programs\u00a0for visitors to utilize\u00a0as they explore these\u00a0sites.\u00a0These services are prioritized in the Big 6: Hunting, Fishing, Wildlife Observation, Wildlife Photography, Interpretation, and Environmental Education.\u00a0Las Vegas NWR uses these guidelines to offer quality opportunities for visitors to learn and immerse themselves in wildlife around them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0Visitor Services\u00a0Intern\u00a0is\u00a0an hourly\u00a0position\u00a0that will\u00a0help Las Vegas NWR increase the quality and quantity of Big 6 functions\u00a0the refuge offers to the public. The addition of an intern will allow for more interpretive and\u00a0educational\u00a0visits to the refuge, improving the visitor experience.\u00a0It is also the hope\u00a0for the refuge to inspire the next generation of Visitor Services professionals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Description of Duties:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pollinator Program\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Support supervisor with lesson completion for visiting students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prepare supplies for\u00a0lessons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lead parts of the lesson under supervisor guidance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Suggest improvements and ensure standards are met\u00a0during lessons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Presentation at the Playas\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Collaborate with supervisor to learn about community partners and how to arrange a talk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prepare for presentations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Advertise\u00a0for\u00a0presentations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Exhibit Design\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Support\u00a0staff with\u00a0interpretive\u00a0and\u00a0interactive design focused on\u00a0wildlife.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Assist\u00a0staff\u00a0with installation of exhibit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Assist staff with\u00a0developing operating procedures for maintenance, function and\u00a0upkeep of exhibit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a background check.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Must be at least 18 years of age.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>High school diploma or GED.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Valid U.S Driver\u2019s License &#8211; Drivers must be over 21 or have had a license for at least 3 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Per federal grant requirements, this position is for young adults between the ages of 18-30 (35 for veterans) at the time the individual begins term of service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Experience working with children.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical Requirements:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To successfully perform essential functions, the individual is required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, etc. May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for significant periods of time and be able to safely lift 25 pounds on a routine basis. Must be able to do so at a distance of up to 50 meters and in conditions with limited visibility or loud background noise such as darkness or high\u00a0winds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Effectively perceive and understand significant and apparent hazards and follow direction by others so that you will be able to successfully execute techniques to manage hazards. These directions may be given before the hazard is encountered or may need to be given during the exposure to the hazard. Ability to respond appropriately to stress or\u00a0crises.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stay alert and focused for several hours at a time while traveling and working in varied weather conditions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If taking prescription medications, participants must be able to maintain proper dosage by self- medicating without assistance from\u00a0others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Substance Free:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with a drug free workplace, alcohol and drugs are prohibited while participating in AmeriCorps and program activities and while on organization property.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background Check:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A DOI background clearance must be completed before the selected candidate may report for service. The\u00a0FWS\u00a0will provide instructions for completion of the clearance after a candidate has been selected and will notify them when they have been cleared to start service.\u00a0<strong>This process will determine the participant\u2019s exact start date.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants will have access to government facilities and systems, and will be supplied with access to government vehicles, equipment, and materials needed to work on the projects and activities as outlined above. The housing offered to interns sits at Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge, about\u00a035 minutes north of Las Vegas NM. The housing is within a valley that can make travelling\u00a0difficult during heavy snow and can be isolating due to its rural location.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Personal vehicles are encouraged but not required.
